others first. The term “servant leadership” was first coined by Robert K. Greenleaf
in The Servant as Leader, an essay he published in 1970. In his essay, Greenleaf
argued that the true purpose of leadership is to serve others, not to accumulate
power or wealth. He said that the best leaders lead from a position of humility and
compassion, not from a desire for personal gain
