AC Subjective

1. Consider the circuit shown in figure. The oscillating source of emf deliver a sinusoidal emf of
amplitude emax and frequency w to the inductor L and two capacitors C 1 and C2. Find the
maximum instantaneous current in each capacitor.

2. An LCR series circuit with 100W resistance is connected to an ac source of 200 V and angular
frequency 300 rad/s. When only the capacitance is removed, the current lags behind the
voltage by 60°. When only the inductance is removed, the current leads the voltage by 60°.
Calculate the current and the power dissipated in the LCR circuit.
3. A series LCR circuit containing a resistance of 120W has angular resonance frequency 4 × 10 5
rad s–1. At resonance the voltages across resistance and inductance are 60 V and 40 V
respectively. Find the values of L and C. At what frequency the current in the circuit lags the
voltage by 45°?
4. A circuit shown consists of two identical inductors, two identical voltmeters A and B and a
source of alternating voltage v  V0 sin  2 ft  . The voltmeters offer only resistance in the
circuit. If the frequency of the voltage source is changed over a wide range, what maximum
reading will the voltmeter B show?

5. Consider a network shown in the figure consisting of a resistance, a capacitor, an inductor and
three alternating voltage sources 1, 2 and 3. Terminal voltages of the sources 1, 2 and 3 are
v1  V sin  t  , v2  V sin  t  120 0  and v3  V sin  t  240 0  respectively and moduli of the
reactances of the capacitor and the inductor are equal to the resistance. Find the voltage of the
junction P.

7. Three sources of emf, V0 sin t, V0 cos t and V0 are connected in series as shown. RMS value
of current in the circuit is

V0 V0 V0 2 2V0
A) B) C) D)
R 2 R R R
8. In the circuit shown in figure power factor of box is 0.5 and power factor of circuit is 3 /2.
Current is leading the voltage. The effective resistance of the box is R  . Find R

9. Three identical coils A, B and C are wound symmetrically on a toroidal iron core in the same
sense. An alternating voltage source is connected across the coil A and an ideal voltmeter is
connected across the coil C. If the coil B is left open, the voltmeter reads half of the source
voltage. How much will the voltmeter, if the coil B is short-circuited?
