TITLE OF MICRO-PROJECT:
Built A Full wave bridge rectifier.

AIM OF MICRO-PROJECT:
Detailed information about full wave bridge rectifier.

COURSE OUTCOME:
Use diodes in different Applications.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION :-

Rectifier:- The circuit which connects by direction

current into unit direction of current it is called as a Rectifier.

Rectification:- The process by means of which AC is

converted into DC it is called as a rectification.
Bridge Full wave Rectifier

Construction and Working

Bridge full wave rectifier consist of simple transformer, A

diodes. D0, D1, D2 & D3 and load resistor RL all are
connected show in fig.(1).

During positive half of AC input of secondary S1 is positive

with respect to S2 b D3 and D1 will followed by the reverse bias
and current flows through D1 and D3 only the path of current
will be D0 RL D2

During negative (-) half cycle of AC input secondary s2 is

positive (+) with respective s1.Hence diode D0 and D2 will be
forward biased. Hence, current flows through D1 and D3 o nly
the path of the current will be D1 RL D3.

Fig.(2) shows input and output waveform full cycle of AC input

is utilized it also shows that bidirectional is converted into
unidirectional current. Hence, the circuit acts as a rectifier.

Average voltage or DC Voltage (Vdc) :- In full wave

bridge rectifier is given by Vdc= 2Vm/π= 0.636 vm.
•Vdc=2vm/π
Vm= maximum or peak voltage across the secondary of
transformer.

Average current or DC Current (Idc):-

Idc= Vdc/2Rf+RL = Vm/π(2Rf+RL)
Here, Rf = forward resistance of diode.

Rectifier efficiency:- The ratio of output DC power

applied to the load to the applied AC input power is
called as a rectifier efficiency.

Advantages of full wave bridge rectifier

1. No centre tapped transformer is required.
2. Much smaller transformer is needed.
3. It has less PIV rating.

Disadvantage of full wave bridge rectifier

1. Four diodes are needed.

2. There is a 1.4v voltage drop across the diode Hence, It
cannot be used for very small power supply.

3. Efficiency of this rectifier is decreases.

Applications:-
1. It is used in high current power supplies.
2. It is used in laboratory DC power supplies.
3. It is used in battery chargers.
4. It is also used in DC power supplies used for various
electronic circuits.
