1. A map of an island with grid lines of 1 cm is shown below. Points A, B, C and D on the
island form a parallelogram. The actual distance between points A and B is 12 km.

5. PQR is a right-angled triangle. A and B are points on PQ and PR respectively such that AB

6. A cuboid tank is filled with water to a height of 15 cm. When a pyramid with a square base
of side 10 cm is placed in the tank, the water level increases by 5 mm.

7. The diagram below shows a square base pyramid with a vertical height of 15.6 cm.
(a) Find the length of each side of the square base, b, given that the volume of the
pyramid is 878.8 cm3.

8. The figure below shows a cylindrical water dispenser and the conical paper cups used by a
company to provide water to its customers.
(a) By assuming the water dispenser is perfectly cylindrical and that it comes filled to the
brim with water, calculate
(i) the maximum volume of water that one paper cup can hold,

(ii) the maximum number of cups that a full water dispenser can fill, given that each
paper cup must be filled to the brim.
(b) If the paper cups are sold in packets of 40, find the minimum area of paper needed to
make one packet of paper cups.
