Assessing the
Academic Performance
of Grade 10 Greeks
Students Through their 3rd
Quarter Periodical Test
Results
I. Background of the Study

Araling Panlipunan subject is a course of study that

focuses on human connections and how society works (SABA
Publishing). It is quite sad that some learners find this subject
boring though this is interesting for some since primarily, this
subject deals with history, politics, economics, constitution,
and society. The subject is highly objective in nature that it
should be taught in an exact and comprehensive way. So,
teachers struggle to motivate learners and must make
information relevant to the experiences of the learners (Press

Reader, 2017). Mastering the Learning Competencies in

Araling Panlipunan is expected to contribute to the
development of a holistically developed citizen who is aware
and knowledgeable of and critically analyzes current social
issues and concerns in the local as well as in global level. This
awareness is an enlightened one and so leads him/her to
respond ethically and participate actively in the resolution of
these issues and concerns (Corpuz and Salandanan, 2015).

This study is intended for assessing the performance

level of Grade 10 Greeks students of Paypay National High

School in Araling Panlipunan subject 3 rd periodical exam and

the factors that influence their performance level so that the

teacher will know what measures he/she must take.

II. Statement of the Problem

The purpose of this study is to provide statistical details of the

following:

(1) Performance level of Grade 10 Greeks students of Paypay

National High School in Araling Panlipunan in their 3rd

Quarter Periodical Exam;

(2) Factors that influence their performance level.

(3) Provide alternatives that will help students either

maintain their scores or suggest a removal exam

depending on the result of the statistics.

III. Significance of the Study

This study is beneficial to the following:

(1) The teachers and the faculty

(2) The students

(3) The future researchers

IV. Methodology

A. Research Design

In this study, the researchers used a statistical

approach in creating frequency distribution table which the

mean, P58, D6, and the percentile rank are needed to be

identified. Hence, a quantitative research.

B. Participants/Respondents

Grade 10 Greeks Students of Paypay National High

School.
C. Data Gathering

The data were taken from the teacher’s class record

and through conducting a survey.

Conclusion

After a careful study and based on the results,

the data showed that only 22 out of 53 students passed the

exam and 31 out of 53 students failed. The statistics shows

that a removal exam must be done. According to the survey,

only a few students devote their time in studying, a factor that

greatly affect their performance. The teaching method is also

a great factor that affect their performance level. As a

recommendation after conducting the survey, all of the

students of Grade 10 Greeks stated that a fun activity like

playing in connection to the discussion should be added so

that the students pay more interest in the subject.
