CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1. Background

Security is the main concern for everyone. Everyone wants to live securely in his/her house.
Everybody wants themselves to keep safe or secure from various incidents like theft in their house.
Now days many times we hear news about house robbery or theft in some houses, bungalows,
flats. These robberies or thefts take place when nobody is in house or in some cases, we find that
robbery take place even if people are in their houses. also, in case of robbery it would be beneficial
if we can blow some alarm. Let’s take an example that we are out of our home and theft is going
on in our house. In such case if we are intimated about theft then we can inform our neighbors,
then they can create some noise or take some appropriate action so that this theft can be avoided.
Let’s take another problem; sometimes key of our home is lost. If we do not replace our lock and
if these keys are found by thieves, then it can cause robbery. We all know that duplicate key can
be created within few minutes and also key duplication is easy. These are the disadvantages of
traditional locking system which uses a key and a lock. To overcome all the above stated
disadvantages of existing system we have designed a GSM based home security system. [1]

Security is a big challenge everywhere because thefts are increasing day by day owing to the unsafe
and insecure security systems in homes, commercial complexes and industries. Several
conventional technologies are available to keep home properties safe from intruders, but most
common smart home security work 2 on wireless GSM communication. Such systems provide
security from natural, incidental, intended, unintended, accidental and human made problems by
continuously monitoring homes with different sensory systems like motion, smoke, gas,
temperature, glass break or door break detectors and fire alarm systems. [2]

Especially in condominium houses it is very dangerous to left the house without somebody to look
after like kids. Especially during night time, the robberies done will increase. Due to this reason
those peoples living around the condominium are obliged to go through a scary day and nights. If
someone living there makes a little mistake, he will lose everything he have, which he accumulated

throughout his life in one day. This makes the life of people living in condominium houses full of
misery.

The problem is not only this but chasing after the robbers after robbery attempt has been made is
also going to be difficult task for the police, most of the time those criminals will not be red-handed
or the robbery will escape away. The escaping of the robbers also has another negative impact on
the youth looking this. The youngsters around this all will be attracted to that crime. Because they
are looking the robbers getting successful simply by stealing and robbing, they will think theft and
robbery is the best option to get successful which will not cause any punishment.so that the rate of
theft and robbery will increase accordingly.

Not only this, but also lives will lost intentionally or unintentionally, this happens when the
intruders faced with some body while he tries to blow whistle the only option that the robber has
is harming that guy so as to stop him from what he is doing, while this all goes on many live will
be murdered.

We are proposing a solution for this big problem of the JIT condominium society. Intruder
Trapping system for JIT condominium: is a home security 3 mechanism used to protect
condominium houses from theft, and robbery. The system is designed to trap someone who is
trying to robe the house, lock him down and call for the police or the owner of the house as required
by the user (owner of the house). The system is used to make our home more secure, keep our
properties safe and even trap the thief, not only our home it might be used in some other secure
places which needs authentication like offices, banks, registrars, security meeting places, places
used to store high government official secrets. And other places that needs special security. \

The system totally can be built-in low-cost relative to the advantages that will be gained from the
system. The system can be used by any individual to protect his home and properties from theft or
any governmental organization for confidential or by any police station according to their will to
trap the intruder.

The good feature of our design is it can catch or trap the thief so that the police will no longer run
after those robbers. They will simply go and take them to the court.

1.2. Statement of the problem

Theft and robbery are the misery of the society, and chasing after the robbers is headache for the
police, most of the time the robbers will escape away from the police on the usual security systems
because there is no trapping mechanism built. sometimes cameras will be used to record any action
around the place that is needed to be secured. But it is not enough to watch what is happening like
a movie, but the thief or the robber must be trapped and get the punishment he deserves. That is
what we are going to work on.

1.3. Objective of the project

The objective of the project can be seen in two ways.

1.3.1. General Objective

The general objective of our project is to minimize theft and robberies in the society by trapping
the robbers.

1.3.2. Specific Objectives

The project has the following specific objectives

✓ Know how the communication is made using GSM.

✓ Understand the working principles of Arduino, GSM, LCD and different sensors.
✓ Enable us program microcontroller.
✓ Understand how ultrasonic signals are transmitted.

1.4. Scope and Limitation of the project

The security system we are going to build is limited only for condominium houses, in which theft
and robbery is common. the system is needed to build around the door, it will trap by closing the
broken door by using reserved locking system, so that we cannot use for ground only houses
because the thief may escape away through the roof or through the window easily. To handle those
failures of the project we have limited the scope only for condominium houses, in which the
windows of the ground floor are protected by the metal frames, and the rest ground plus floors are
not easy to escape by jumping through the window.

1.5. Significance of the Project

This intruder trapping system for JIT condominium houses is significant for every individual living
in JIT condominium who is sick of theft and robbery so that their properties will be kept safe, and
also for those who work on security issues like police.

It can be specifically used for individual homes, banks, military bases, secured government offices,
and other areas which needs authentication and security.
