The Department of Civil Engineering is not that old at the Red Fortress. Yet, from the beginning,
this faculty has come up with contemporary teaching materials to engage more with students.
Highly educated faculty members, efficient teaching methods, and abundant digital laboratories
made this department unique in its way. But soon the associated persons realized only these
assets are not enough to run the administrative works. For better interaction of teachers and
students, from department to university, forming a club came up with the top priority. This is
how our long-awaited East West University Civil Engineering Club (ECEC) had been formed.
It was the month of November 2022, when ongoing students of the civil engineering department
requested their honorable chairperson Md. Naimul Haque to permit them to clubbing. Sir was
kind enough to take the essential steps and set up an interview session with the candidates. After
a hairpin analysis, a general meeting had been called on December 13 where we got introduced
as the newly appointed club representatives under the guidance of Dr. Suman Reza sir. The
board is currently attached to 24 people and is represented by followingly the president Md.
Arefin Siddique, and the General Secretary Md Mustafizur Rahman. Other major roles are
Treasurer, Media and Publication Secretary, Community and Event Management Secretary,
Membership Secretary, and finally Archive Secretary. We have locked several goals to achieve
such as fetching the maximum number of students, creating an interactive interface for learning,
uplifting the brand image of our department at the campus, and so on.
After being handed over with the responsibilities, our selfsame first task was to place a crucial
seminar on December 26th named “Enhancing the Climate Resilience of Critical Coastal
Infrastructure Through Eco-Retrofitting”, conducted by Dr. Md. Salauddin, assistant professor,
School of Civil Engineering from University College Dublin, Ireland. The overall event was
managed, hosted, and followed up by ECEC. The session was taken place at the S.M. Nousher
Gallery with the full participation of students. The purpose of this session was to familiarize the
students with the ‘Eco-Retrofitting’ concept and to learn how to sustain the coastal area
structures. The honorable chairperson of the department Dr. Md. Naimul Haque sir welcomed
and introduced the speaker to the students as well as ended up the successful evening by handing
over a crest to the guest.
This is our story in short. ECEC is evolving at full stride to make a change. We firmly believe,
our club has the potential to make the department a healthy community where learning is all
about fun and enjoyment. We hope our community will get bigger and better over time.
