Culex spp (Larva)

• Well-developed head
• Thorax is roundish
• Abdomen has nine visible segments
• Possess a siphon (long or short)
• Hang upside down at an angle from
the water surface to get oxygen

• Large and hairy non- metalic flies,
usually greyish
• 3 prominent black longitudinal stripes
on the thorax
• Chequer-board (chess-board) abdomen

• No scutum (dorsal shield)
• Have eight legs

• Have eight legs
• Mouthparts projecting forwardly
and clearly visible dorsally

• Pale & disc-shaped
• Four short pairs of legs
• Short and fat palps and pincer-
like chelicerae of the mouthparts
protrude anteriorly from the
body
Demodex folliculorum

• 0.2–0.4 mm
• Worm like, Striated body
• Four pairs of very short stubby
legs
