WELCOME TO YOUR

EXPADVISER
REPORT CONFIDENTIAL

ExpAdviser® is the latest-generation psychometric tool that measures underlying behaviors and
preferences of individuals who live and work in the international environment. It is designed
to enhance your cultural agility and help you succeed in the global workplace.
Cultural and personal differences in preferences and work styles affect a range of critical
business activities. When working across cultures or in an international role, ExpAdviser® will
enable you to:

HOW TO READ THIS REPORT?
ExpAdviser® measures 33 factors grouped into 8 dimensions. While some of your scores will help you in your intercultural
interactions, others may make your interactions a little more challenging.

It’s important to realize that for most of the factors, there are no absolute good or bad scores. Your scores depend
on your role and tasks, current focus, your own cultural background, and the influencing factors that might have
shaped your personality, cultural values and work preferences.

This report contains plenty of suggestions on how to use ExpAdviser® to your advantage and adjust your behavior for better results.

YOUR SCORES AS ‘PERCENTILES’

Your individual scores for each factor are represented by a percentile and illustrated in circular graphs which we call “your orange ring
score”.
The closer your ring is to the outer edge of the circle, the higher your score/percentile is.
The closer your ring is to the center of the circle, the lower your score/percentile is.

A percentile is your aggregated score compared with everyone else in ExpAdviser®

database of users. A percentile is equal to the percentage of people who scored below
you for a specific factor.

For example, if your percentile is 80 in relation to a factor Task Oriented, that means that 80% of the international professionals
tested by ExpAdviser® are less task-oriented than you in comparison to others in ExpAdviser® database .

If you have any questions please contact the ExpAdviser Team: expadviser@netexpat.com Page: 2
CULTURE-SENSITIVE FACTORS
AND PERSONAL FACTORS
True cultural agility can be developed by combining cultural behaviors influenced by the environment we grow up in, with individual
personality aspects.

This is why ExpAdviser® includes both culture-sensitive and personal factors.

Culture-sensitive factors are those which are influenced by the cultural values and norms of the environment you grew up in (i.e., a
country) and supported by scientific research.

For example, the Multitasking factor highlights the user’s preference for
managing multiple activities simultaneously. A score of 36 indicates that
the user has a low preference for multitasking and prefers to work at one
thing at the time. The user can compare their score to other cultures. In
this example, the user’s preference overlaps with general preferences in
Polish and US American cultures but is far from a general preference in
Colombia.
Multitasking is a culture-sensitive factor because there are studies which
show that people manage time and activities differently across cultures –
for example, sequentially or simultaneously.

Personal factors on the other hand, are those which can’t be backed up by research.

For example, the factor Predictable - there is no scientific evidence to say

that how predictable you are may be influenced by your cultural
environment. Scores on this factor would vary too much within the
culture to be able to make a comparison or to define a cultural tendency.

If you have any questions please contact the ExpAdviser Team: expadviser@netexpat.com Page: 3
THE CULTURE COMPARISON TOOL
The culture comparison is a fantastic tool where you can compare yourself to up to five cultures at one time and view personalized
reports.

As in the example of Explicit, when your orange ring score appears in

bright orange, it means that there is no overlap between your score and
the score of the culture of comparison. However, if your orange ring score
changes into a faded or gray shade, there is a clear overlap. In this
example, there is an overlap between the user’s score and the US
American culture but none with the Chinese culture.

The culture-related scores come from a variety of cross-cultural research which cover a wide population, different generations, and
many locations across one country. That’s why these scores cover multiple rings, meaning that you will face a range of possible
scores. They are a great starting point to help you position yourself within a new culture. However, make sure that you get to know
the people you’re interacting with before jumping to conclusions.

THE 360° CAPABILITY

YOUR INTERCULTURAL IDENTITY PROFILE
Your intercultural identity profile provides additional insights into who you are as a person.
Intercultural identity theory reveals that individuals with extensive experiences across cultures gradually move from being
monoculturally-oriented to having an intercultural identity (Prof. Young Y. Kim).

We are all complex individuals whose identities are being shaped and re-shaped by our upbringing,
personal and professional backgrounds, and interactions with people from other cultures – to say
the least.

opinions of those around you. When collaborating with similar people, you will be in sync. But be careful - changing your
mind too often can lead to confusion and lack of a clear way forward. Also, consider potential challenges when working
with those who are less open minded than you.

When working with someone whose score is significantly lower than yours, you may perceive them as difficult, slow to
change or as if they think they are "always right". On the other hand, they may perceive you as lacking clarity, authority

losing touch with their own cultural values and adapting too much to the ways of others. On the other hand, they may
perceive you as unfriendly, uninclusive and preventing synergy in a team.

Interest in the people side of cultural interaction
You scored low on being people focused, which means that you focus more on tasks and project goals rather than the
people you work with. When collaborating with individuals who have a similar style, you will be in sync. However,
consider potential challenges when working with individuals who are more people focused.

When working with someone whose score is significantly higher than yours, you may perceive them as distracted, time
wasters and lacking focus on goals. On the other hand, they may perceive you as unfriendly and unapproachable.

Keep in mind that some colleagues may not expect too much relationship building before you start working together.
You will get to know each other throughout the project. Finding the right balance between getting to know each other
and getting the work done will help you to stay aligned and succeed.
