Slam the Dam event continues to grow

Slam the Dam 8 is in the
books. Saturday, March 16th was a
beautiful day, even though it started
out a bit chilly for those of us sitting
or standing at the registration
table on the west end of the dam.
By 10:00 we were ready to start.
Approximately 90 runners/walkers
of all ages began the trek across
Fort Peck Dam. It was glorious to
be walking or running right into
the warm springtime sun. Valley
County Sheriff ’s department had
three members present to help keep
an eye on everything; McCone
County Sheriff ’s department had a
member there, as well.
Young children ran and played
along the way; babies in strollers
were pushed by ambitious mothers
and/or grandmothers; older folks
ambled along, enjoying visiting as
they went. One fellow brought his
trusty walking stick and made it the
entire way.

District 3C seniors

Residential It’s hard to believe that there were any seniors that
played basketball in District 3C. After all, most of the

Most of the seniors have been playing since fifth and

The only team in 3C that will lose senior standouts
is North Country. These seniors have enjoyed success
on the court. Teagan Erickson and Josie Brown are from
Saco. Paige Wasson, Kendall Sheffelmear, and Ava Hanley
are from Whitewater.
Erickson will move on to play for Montana State,
Wasson for Rocky Mountain College, and Scheffelmear
to Minot to play volleyball.
The Mavericks will definitely miss these seniors.
They have been part of a program that played in three

be better, but the Porcupines need to find more athletes.

Teagan and Paige, what can one say?
Perhaps Ken Jansa, who stopped in BS
Central prior to the Mavericks heading to the
State C Tournament summed it up very well in
saying it is a rarity to see this much talent on one team,
and a Class C team to boot, along with some other very
talented athletes thrown into the line-up. “Oh yeah, no
question about it, they’ll win it all again,” was Ken’s
prediction. Following the State C title, Jim McColly was
in. “They only won their three games (at State) by 85
points this year. Last year they won by over a hundred,”
he said sarcastically. Jim’s prediction? The Mavericks
won’t be what they have been these past three seasons,
but they’ll still have a good team. We wish Teagan,
Paige and Kendall all the best on the collegiate level.
