SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATH GRADE 9

DATE: 03/11/2024

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. identify the AA Similarity Theorem(M9GE-IIIf-2),

b. prove the conditions for the SAS Similarity Theorem(M9GE-IIIf-2),

c. solve problems involving SSS Similarity Theorem(M9GE-IIIf-2),.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Proves the Conditions for Similarity of a Triangle – SAS, SSS, AA

Similarity Theorem.

B. Teaching Materials: Laptop for PowerPoint Presentation, Activity Sheet,

Chalk, Whiteboard and Whiteboard Marker.

C. Reference: Mathematics 9, Mathematics Learner’s Material 9 and

Mathematics Module 9

III. Preliminary Activities

a. Prayer – Prayer will be led by a student.

b. Greetings - The teacher will greet the students.
c. Attendance - The teacher will check the attendance of the students.

IV. LEARNING PROCEDURE

Review

As a short review, the teacher will present a problem involving

proportion.

8 4
a. =
x 10
30 60
b. =
7 x
A1. Activity

Before the proper lesson starts, different pictures of triangles will be

shown to the class. Each pictures portrays different triangle sizes. The
students will be asked if they are congruent or similar. Expectedly, they may
have different answers. Therefore, all answers will be entertained and guided.

Instruction: Identify the following triangles if they are congruent or

similar.

The teacher will also ask questions after the activity.

a. Based on your observation what is the difference between congruent
and similar triangle?
b. How can we say that a triangle is similar?
c. Does proportion matter to identify if a triangle is similar?

A2. Analysis

From the student’s different perspective, the teacher will explain that
just like what they have learned from their previous year, triangles having the
same size and shape are congruent and triangles that have the same shape
but are not necessarily of the same size. These triangles are said to be
similar. To start with the topic the teacher will present SAS, SSS and AA
Similarity Theorem. Also, the conditions to prove for the similarity of these
triangles.

1. Introduce the different type of theorems and their conditions:

a. AA Similarity Theorem – If two angles of one triangle are congruent

to two angles of another triangle, then the triangles are similar.
b. SAS Similarity Theorem - if two sides of one triangle are proportional
to the corresponding sides of another triangle, and if the
corresponding included angles are also equal, then the triangles are
similar.
c. SSS Similar Theorem – if two triangles are similar if all their
corresponding angles are congruent and their corresponding sides
are proportional.

After introducing the different types of theorems about similar triangle the
teacher will ask the student to identify the similar triangle on the A1. Activity.

A3. Abstraction

1. The teacher will give examples on different theorems and discuss

their solutions.
2. The teacher will again ask the students about the questions in the A1.
Activity (heading to generalization).

A4. Application

The class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group will be given an
activity sheet to answer. Within the activity sheet they will solve the given
problem. The objective is to further their learning by using cooperative
learning.

Activity Sheet

Instruction: Which of the following pair of triangles are similar? If they

are similar what is the theorem that proves that these two triangles are
similar? If they are not similar write “NOT SIMILAR”.
