INTRODUCTION
Some installations with Sulzer A–type diesel engines using either PG 12 or UG 8 Woodward
Governors have reported damaged serrations of the governor drive due to torsional vibrations.
1. NEW SERRATION
In order to remedy such damage to the serration a new repair kit has been prepared. The original
serration (type SAE 5/8”) of the governor and the intermediate shaft with 36 teeth has been
substituted with a new shafting arrangement using only 12 teeth, with a serration according to ASA B
5.15–0.6.
This modified shafting arrangement is more robust to withstand the high strain caused by vibrations.
Whenever the drive shaft has to be replaced due a to worn serration, the new arrangement should be
used.
The necessary repair kit can be ordered from New Sulzer Diesel Ltd., Winterthur, Switzerland
referring to this bulletin, indicating the type of engine and type of Woodward governor.
The following parts have to be exchanged: Governor drive shaft and intermediate drive shaft together
with the bushing. Please refer to enclosure A 12 / 1.
