INTRODUCTION

With the development of the AStype engine to its present standard, the AT25 type, various
cylinder liner/piston ring variations, adapted to the different output rates and applications (i.e.
HFO/MDO engines; generator/propulsion engines), have been introduced. Recently a new
type of cylinder liner as well as new types of top piston rings have been released in order to
improve the piston running behaviour and to standardise spare parts handling. Please find
below all necessary details of the parts concerned suitable for your plant.

1. CURRENT STANDARD OF PISTON RINGS FOR AS25 AND AT25 TYPES

MDO operation HFO operation

Type Type
Piston ring ”a” 841 277
Piston Ring ”b” 841 277
Piston Ring ”c” 887 278

These piston rings are suitable for both generator and propulsion application.

2. NEW STANDARD OF PISTON RINGS FOR AS25 AND AT25 TYPES

MDO operation HFO operation

Type Type
Piston ring ”a” 841 068 or 069
Piston ring ”b” 841 277
Piston ring ”c” 887 278

Type 841 Chromium plated running surface

Type 887 Stepped ring, not chromium plated
Type 277 Chromium plated running surface and flanks
Type 278 Stepped ring with flanks chromium plated
Type 068 or 069 Chrome-ceramic running surface with flanks chromium plated

3. CURRENT STANDARD OF CYLINDER LINERS

MDO operation HFO operation

Type Type
Generator
AS25 058 200
058.200 058 201
058.201
Propulsion

Generator 058.201
AT25 058 200
058.200
Propulsion 058.202

Above mentioned cylinder liner types differ only in their casting process (sand casting or centrifugal
casting) and whether they are nitrided or not.

4. NEW STANDARD OF CYLINDER LINER FOR AS25 AND AT25 TYPES

For all AS/AT25 types, irrespective of their application and fuel used, the new type of cylinder liner,
058.202, is a centrifugally cast liner without nitriding. In combination with the newly introduced
chrome-ceramic top piston ring, favourable wear rates are achieved. In addition to improved running
parameters this pairing simplifies spare parts logistics.
The new 058.202 type cylinder liner, centrifugal casting without nitriding, will be the future standard
cylinder liner for all engines in service and all applications, whether MDO or HFO, generator or
propulsion, once the existing stock is used up.

5. ENGINES IN OPERATION AND SPARE PARTS

The new 058.202 type cylinder liner will in future be supplied as a spare part for all engines in service.
However, the existing stock can and will be used up. The chrome-ceramic ring can be used without
restriction for engines in HFO operation also in combination with previous standard cylinder liners.
However, in combination with sand cast cylinder liners, the cylinder liner wear might slightly
increase.
