Luca Gianotti
Luca Gianotti is Professor of General Surgery at the Milano-
Bicocca University, and Director of Hepatopancreaticobiliary Sur-
gery at the San Gerardo Hospital, in Monza, Italy.
He obtained the MD degree with distinction by the University of
Milan, and the PhD degree cum laude by the University of

Cincinnati, USA for his work on bacterial translocation and has
trained as a surgeon at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
His clinical interests focus surgery of the pancreas, liver, and
biliary tree. His research interests include surgical nutrition and
metabolism, surgical infections and pancreatic cancer. He has
over 250 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has lectured
both nationally and internationally. He serves as reviewer for
more 50 international scientific journals.
He has been awarded the prestigious Arvid Wretlind Lecture at
the 41st ESPEN Congress in 2019, Ken Fearon lecture at the 6th
World Congress of the ERAS Society in 2018, the fellowship of
ESPEN in 1994 and the Joseph Susman Award of the Surgical Infec-
tion Society in 2002. He has been cited among the “World Top Sci-
entists” by Plos Biology in 2019. He has been President of the Italian
PEN Society (SINPE) (2105e2019).
