Gülistan Bahat
Gülistan Bahat is professor of geriatrics at Istanbul University,
Istanbul Medical School, Turkey. She has performed medical
training in Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey (1998), postgrad-
uate education on internal medicine (2004) and geriatrics (2009)
in Istanbul Medical School, Turkey. She has completed European
Academy for Medicine of Ageing (EAMA) advanced postgraduate
course in geriatrics in 2013. She has been awarded as associate pro-
fessor in 2012 and professor in 2018. Her main fields of interest are
nutrition in the older adults, sarcopenia, frailty, dysphagia, obesity,

sarcopenic obesity, geriatric syndromes, inappropriate prescribing-
polypharmacy, osteoporosis and treatment of chronic diseases in
the older adults.
She has more than 100 articles published in web of science with
an h-index of 19 (google scholar), 13 (web of science) and i10 index
of 29. She has given several invited international and national lec-
tures and published national articles and book chapters. She is one
of the members of EWGSOP2 sarcopenia consensus writing group,
one of the coordinators of the SARC-F cross-cultural adaptation and
validation project organised by the European Geriatric Medicine
Society (EuGMS) special interest group on sarcopenia, member of
Global European Initiative (GEI) group of EuGMS and a teacher
for life long learning (LLL) programme in clinical nutrition and
metabolism of ESPEN. She is also one of the early members and po-
sition statement co-authors of international group for reducing
inappropriate medication use and polypharmacy (IGRIMUP) and
developers of Turkish Inappropriate Medication Use in the Elderly
(TIME) criteria which represents the first explicit criteria set
including criteria for nutritional treatment in the older adults.
