CHAPTER 8 - EMOTION

Emotions are mental states brought on by neurophysiological changes, variously associated with
thoughts, feelings, behavioural responses, and a degree of pleasure or displeasure. There is
currently no scientific consensus on a definition.

Emotions are often intertwined with mood, temperament, personality, disposition, or creativity.

Throughout, the course numerous topics have been discussed in how complicated it is to
directly observe an emotion and truly understand what the other person is actually feeling. One can
express emotions by facial expressions, posture and by their tone of voice. Being able to
understand and express our emotions is important. Emotions not only impact us internally but
externally as well. When we experience an emotion there are physical changes that occur that are
controlled by our nervous system and by hormones. Although stress is not an emotion, stress has a
huge impact on emotions. For instance, stress can impact our memory and cause health problems.
“Stress is an experience that produces emotion, especially in cases of fear, anger, and grief.

CHAPTER 9 – FRUSTRATION, CONFLICT STRESS AND HEALTH

Frustration is the feeling of irritability or anger because of the inability to achieve something.
Being in a constant state of frustration can lead to many problems in your life.

Conflict can be defined as a condition where the individual faces difficulty in arriving at a
decision due to two or more different interests.

Stress can be defined as a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation. Stress
is a natural human response that prompts us to address challenges and threats in our lives.
Frustration, conflict stress is always around us. It is with us on how to handle with this
kind of feelings and emotions. Its either we change it or control it, if cannot then learn to accept
it. We just have to decide the most important things carefully before taking a decision. We can
change our goals or modify our desires. Substitute our goals with those which are equally
satisfying but different and obtainable. And maybe we can seek some advice from experts,
friends or relatives. Encourage full expression of positive and negative feeling within an
accepting atmosphere. And lastly, avoid indecision. Stick with decisions and forget about other
choices.

CHAPTER 10 – MENTAL HYGIENE AND PERSONALITY

Mental hygiene stresses the integration of the person —body, mind, environment. It draws where
it will and can for its bases.

Mental health is an integral part of health; indeed, there is no health without mental
health". The COVID-19 pandemic has also put our psychological well-being to the test and there
is only one way to preserve it: by looking after our mental hygiene. Below we explain how to
avoid negative behaviour, achieve emotional equilibrium and improve our quality of life.
The coronavirus crisis has been a major blow to our spirits and now millions of people over the
world are showing signs of psychological stress due to the fight against COVID-19. In general
we are talking about frequent attacks of anxiety or depression resulting from stress
through confinement, social distancing fear of becoming infected. In these difficult times, mental
hygiene is the key to protecting society most vulnerable such as the young. Good mental health
enables us to learn reason, interact, produce, face difficulties and put our best face on things.

CHAPTER 11 – SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY AND COMMUNICATION

Social psychology provides a guide for public relations professionals to effectively and
authentically reach audiences. Using psychology to implement public relations is extremely
effective because it can help to understand human behavior and attitudes. Communication
involves interrelationships among people; requires that people acquire a shared understanding of
what particular sounds, words, signs, and gestures represent; and is the means through which
people influence others and are in turn influenced by others. This is also core business in social
psychology.

The relationship between communication and psychology isn’t just about how a
practitioner interacts with patients or clients. These two areas are intrinsically linked, because
interpersonal communications play a significant role in the way someone views themselves. This
means that every external interaction can impact the way a person communicates internally.
Therefore, the quality of relationships directly affects someone’s mental health, in both positive
and negative ways.

CHAPTER 12 – APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY

Applied psychology is the study and ability to solve problems within human behavior such as
health issues, workplace issues, or education. There are various specialty areas within applied
psychology including clinical psychology, counseling services, medicinal psychology, and
forensic psychology.

There are many uses of applied psychology and can be found as a subfield in other genres
of psychology. Applied Psychology has been used in teaching psychology because it focuses on
the scientific findings and how it can be used to transfer that behavior. Many people who use
applied psychology work in the fields of teaching, industrial, clinical, and consulting work
areas. The Encyclopedia of Applied Psychology delves deeper into the many subsections that are
used in correlation with this field and further explains the procedures that should be used in each
of the respective industries. Applied psychology can be used in our daily life by actively
addressing conations, attentional focus, cognitions, and level of affective intensity, people play a
