On the mentioned damages on ship, what are the potential hazards to the cargo and
personnel on-board the ship?

• Cargo and the personnel on-board are the most important aspect of any ship so
damages like corrosion, wear, and tear will cause hazards that can affect the service
and performance of any ship. The potential hazards to the cargo of the mentioned
damages are weakening the structural components of a cargo that can lead to
damage and failure while being transported, harmful substances or contaminants
that can affect the quality of the cargo, leakage on ships like bulk carrier that can
lessen the amount of cargo, and it can cause environmental pollution especially if
the cargo contains hazardous materials. The potential hazards to the personnel on-
board the ship of the mentioned damages are injuries and possibly lost of life
because the damages can weaken the structural integrity of the ship that
jeopardizes the safety of the crew, health risks because of the exposure of
hazardous materials that affected by corrosion, wear, and tear, and these damages
can affect the mechanical and electrical systems like the navigational equipment
but most of all the fire hazards because increasing the risk of short circuits or
equipment failures that can lead to fire on board that can definitely affect the crew
onboard. Moreover, the damages can lead to the ship retiring or unable to continue
her voyage so even if some of the damages are unavoidable, we should know how
to do PROPER maintenance because it will help the ship live longer that can serve
many countries that can help a lot of people so maintaining should be done
properly.
