DELTA-DELTA THREE-PHASE

Delta-delta transformers are mainly three-phase transformers, but a small part of them
are used for single-phase transformers. Three-phase loads are usually motors,
transformers, and other loads, while single-phase loads are usually lighting and low-
voltage power supply. The single-phase load is fed by grounding the center tap on a
branch of the secondary coil of the delta transformer and then connecting the single-
phase load between a phase on the grounding branch and the grounded neutral line.

If one single-phase transformer in delta-delta transformer fails and cannot operate, the
transformer can only operate with two transformers to form an open delta configuration.
At this time, although the kVA rating of the transformer decreases, it still provides three-
phase power to the load.

transformers are widely used in low power supply distribution with the primary windings
providing a 3-wire balanced .

Advantages of delta-delta transformers

1. The delta-delta connection has advantages in balanced and unbalanced loads;

2. If the third harmonic appears in the IF circuit, it will circulate in the closed loop of
the delta, so it will not appear in the output voltage.
Disadvantages of delta - delta Transformers

The main disadvantage of this type of transformer is the lack of available wye-point or
neutral terminal. Therefore, when the wye-point or neutral terminal is not needed and
the voltage is low, the delta-delta transformer can be used.

Step Down Application for delta-delta transformer bank

A three-phase electrical system in used to generate and transmit electric power
over long distances for use by offices and industry. Three-phase voltages (and
currents) are raised or lowered by means of three phase transformers as three-
phase transformer can have its windings connected in various ways.

Three-phase, also written as 3-phase or 3φ supplies are used for electrical

power generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as for all industrial
uses. Three-phase supplies have many electrical advantages over single-
phase power and when considering three-phase transformers we have to deal
with three alternating voltages and currents differing in phase-time by 120
degrees as shown below.

What is an Open Delta Connection Transformer?

An open delta connection transformer uses two single-phase transformers

to provide a three-phase supply to the load. An open delta connection system
is also called a V-V system. Open delta connection systems are usually only
used in emergency conditions, as their efficiency is low when compared to
delta-delta (closed delta) systems (which are used during standard
operations).
What is a Close Delta Connection Transformer?

Closed Delta - All element operating voltages need to be equal to the phase voltage as
there will be two phases across each element. You will require only 2 SCR control units
for the 3 phases. Heat control is not as accurate as for open Delta.
A closed-delta connected Type A regulator in raise, wye connected Type B regulator in
lowering and open-delta connected (case. a) Type B regulator in raise has been
presented in Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 respectively. However, for the basic modeling idea,
the model will be presented below, only for closed-delta connected SVR with Type A
regulators

Delta Loads

it is assumed that all loads draw real and complex power and that all three-phase loads
are star and delta connected and all double- and single-phase loads are connected
between line and neutral and line to line respectively [5]. Figs 3 and 4 below show the
graphic picture of a both star and delta connected loads. Fig. 4 above, SL q a, SL q b, SL
q c can be of different values or even zeros. In fact, double-phase and single- phase loads
are modeled by setting the values of the complex power of the non-existing phases to
zero [6].
