1. The International Day of Mathematics is a global event celebrated every March 14 since
2020.. The major goal of the IDM is to improve understanding among the general public of the
importance of Mathematics education, raise awareness of the role of Mathematics in modern
society, science and disaster management, increase access to information about
Mathematics, international networking and collaboration in public awareness of Mathematics
and more.
2. Anent to this, this Division shall conduct acitivities from March 11 – 16 , 2024 with its theme:
“Play with Maths”. This is anchored on Project BLAZE (Building Learners Authentic Zeal of
Excellence) and Project T-MATH. The theme connotes celebrating not only with
mathematical games, puzzles and other entertaining activties like performing an insturment or
acting in a theater, but also “Playing “ with Mathematics itself , exploring, experimenting and
discovering.

3. . Relative to this , the suggested school based - contests shall be conducted by


simultaneously as shown below:

4. All concerned School Heads are requested to make necessary arrangement so that
the policy on non-disruption of classes, “ Engaged Time on Task “ shall be imposed.
5. Each Congressional District may conduct elimination round on March 16, or they can just tap
who shall participate since the contest shall not disrupt regular classes.
6. First place to third place winners in the elimination round shall participate in the
Division round on March 23 ,2024, Saturday at ( to be announced ). The expected
number of participants in the Division round are the top three winners from each
congressional distric

7. There shall be launching and demo- contests of MELO-DAMA for SNED and CLASH
of NUMBERS for Kindergarten.
8. The District School Heads In-charge of Mathematics in coordination with the Public
School District Supervisors and other School Heads and Math Coordinators shall
facilitate the activities to be conducted at their respective Congressional District and
shall register their winners /particpants for the Division round to link

9. A minimum registration fee of P100. 00 per contestant shall be charged to cover
expenses at the Division Round ( e.g. Sound system and materials ). The coaches and
contestants shall be responsible for their own foods and accommodation.

10.Travelling expenses and registration fee and other related expenses in the elimination
and final round may be charged from School MOOE/ Local Fund subject to the
usual auditing and accounting procedures.
11.The Technical Working Group shall be composed of MTAQ officers and members. All
teachers and TWG who shall be participating in activties that fall on holidays and
weekends shall be entitled to service credits in accordance with DepEd Order No. 53,
s, 2003, Granting Vacation Service credits fr teachers, while for School Heads
Compensatory Time off shall be granted in accordance with CSC and DBM Joint
Circular.
12.Enclosed are the guidelines and mechanics of the contest.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR THE CONDUCT OF 2024


INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MATHEMATICS

1. Participants are Top 3 winners of each Congressional Districts.


2. Participants must be in the contest room / venue 15 minutes before the competition.
3. A registration fee of Php 100 shall be charged to each contestant to cover expenses at
the Division Round (e.g. Sound system and materials).
4. Contest briefing will be provided before the contests proper.

A. MATHALINONG BATA

1. The contestants are top 3 winners in each Congressional districts for each grade
level.
2. Participants shall answer 25 items written test in 30 minutes.
3. Top 5 scorers shall advance to the final round. “Back to Zero” rule shall be applied.
4. In the final round, the finalists shall be given questions orally in three categories
with corresponding cash prizes for every correct answer. Cash prizes in each
question shall be deducted from the Jackpot prize.

6. After the difficult round, the points shall be added. The highest pointer (top 3)
shall be declared winners: Champion, Second and Third placer.
7. In case of tie/s, do or die question/s shall be given. The first one to give the
correct answer shall be declared winner/s.
8. In the jackpot round, the champion shall be given three (3) questions. If he/she
answered at least two (2) questions correctly, he/she shall receive the remaining
money in the pot, otherwise, the remaining money shall go to the MTAQ Fund.

B. MATHRATHON- ELEMENTARY
1. Participants are the top three per congressional district.
2. The contest has four rounds : EASY. AVERAGE, DIFFICULT and FINAL. Each
round has four questions on fundamental operations .
3. Each round will be answered in 15, 20, and 30 seconds respectively. The first five
(5) contestants who got the highest total score after the difficult round shall qualify to
the final round. Their scores are back to zero.
4. In the final Round , four questions shall be asked . The first one to give the correct
answer will get one (1) point. The contestant who got the highest score shall be
declared winner.
5. In case of a tie, a clincher question shall be given. The first who got the correct
answer shall be declared winner. In the event that no one got the correct answer, a do
or die question shall be asked.

2. Contestants shall bring three (3 X 3 ) Rubik’s cube in any size of their choice and their
own timer ( e.g. cp, stopwatch, etc.,)

3. It is a “race to three_ competition. Each contestant will solve three Rubik’s cube
continuously.
4. Patterns to be solved shall be given during the contest.
5. There shall be three elimination rounds
Round 1 - all top three winners per congressional district
Round 2 - Top 9 finishers from Round 1
Round 3 - top 6 finishers from round 2
6.Top 3 finishers from round 3 shall be declared First, second and third placers.

7. In case that Rubik’s cube separates into pieces, contestant shall be eliminated
automatically.

D. KRYPTO

1. Top THREE winners per Congressional District shall be qualified to the Division
level. Big Schools must send only 1 participant.
2. Does not follow PEMDAS rule, no radicals, no fraction, no negative numbers, no
exponent, and no zero.
3. Materials shall be provided by MTAQ.
4. Contest mechanics shall be announced before the actual contest.

2. Contestants shall bring their own boards and chips during the competition.
3. Contestants shall be grouped into three (3) and compete with each other using round
robin elimination in each group. Top two (2) for each group will qualify for the final
round where top 3 scorers in this round will be declared winners.

F. SUDOKU WHIZKID/ WIZARD


1. Top 3 winners per C shall be qualified to the Division level. Big Schools must send
only 1 participant.
2. The Division Finals is composed of three (3) rounds and a warm-up round. The
warm-up, a conditioning period, enables the participants to earn points. The
participants shall be given 140 minutes or 2 hours and 20 minutes to answer all the
given puzzles which come in ascending difficulty. The participants shall answer all the
provided Sudoku puzzles in each round. Thus, the participants shall be ranked
according to accumulated points in every round.

NOTE: Only the contestant can ask for clarification of his/her claim and stand in the
contest.

3. In determining the 1 , 2 and 3 placer of each category, the sum of scores in every
round and warm-up round of each qualifier shall be added and ranked accordingly.
4. In case of a tie, the technical committee will provide a fair and just scheme to break
it.
5. The technical committee reserves the right to change or improve any part of the
mechanics of the contest without prior notice to the participants for as long as the
change/s will not affect the purpose or objective of the contest.
6. In the event a situation arises not covered in any rules or mechanics of this contest,
the members of the Technical Committee shall determine the final judgment and
pronouncement.
7. The decision of the Board of Judges is final.
8. The credits and acknowledgment will be given to the MTG Philippine Sudoku Super
Challenge as the author of these guidelines executed in the above mechanics and
ground rules.

G. ON – THE - SPOT POSTER MAKING:

1. Contestants shall be top 3 winners from each congressional district.


2. Each contestant should bring ¼ illustration board, pencil, and oil pastel. Borrowing
of materials is strictly prohibited.
3. Contestants shall be doing a poster following a common theme which shall be
announced during the contest briefing before the contest proper.
4. Contestants shall be given three (3) hours to do the poster.
5. Each entry shall be judged according to the following criteria:

H. ON THE SPOT SLOGAN MAKING CONTEST


1. Top 3 winners per Congressional district shall be qualified to the Division level. Big
Schools must send only 1 participant.
2. Contestant shall write a slogan following a common theme which shall be

announced during the contest.

3. Each contestant shall bring a “thick” colored paper ( legal size) together with writing
materials.
4. Each entry shall be written in English.
5. The content of the slogan must include mathematical terms.
6. Contestants shall be given 1 1/2 hours to write the slogan.
7. Strictly no design.
8. Each entry shall be judged according to the following criteria:

J. MATHEMATICAL INVESTIGATION

1. The contestants are top 3 winners of each congressional districts in grade 5


elementary pupils; and grade 10 students in each level. This is a pair competition.

2. Each team shall provide their own materials (typewriting/ colored papers, pentel
pen, calculator, paste, scissors, pencil/ ballpen, ruler or any geometrical tools)
display board (1 whole illustration board. Ready- made designs/ art works are
STRICTLY prohibited.

3. Three hours shall be given to do the investigation including its preparation of the
write-ups.

4. After pre-judging, top 5 pair shall undergo a five-minute oral presentation. Top 3
scorers will be proclaimed winners as First, Second and Third.

5. Mathematical Investigation shall be judged according to the following criteria:

K. MATH JINGLE (SECONDARY )


1. Participants are the top three winners per Congressional district.
2. Participntshall peform shall be composed of 12 members regardless of gender
and grade level.
3. Each group shall perform their piece using their body sounds and movements
only. There shall be no accompaniment of music.
4. Each group shall wear blue maong pants, tshirt (no schools identification) and
rubber shoes of any color.
5. Each group shall strictly observe “No props (even hand props) Policy”.
6. Each group shall be given six (6) minutes including entrance and exit. A
deduction of five (5) points per minute shall be imposed in excess of the allotted
time from the total score given by each member of the Board of Judges.
7. Lyrics of Math Jingle must be in ENGLISH only. Name of the school should not
be part of the Math Jingle.
8. Each group shall submit a copy of their piece to the panel of judges. It shall be
four copies using legal size typewriting paper, arial font, and font size 12, in long
white folder without any identification of the school.
9. The following criteria shall be used:

M. SPOKEN POETRY

1.) Contestants are top 3 winners from each Congressional district.


2.) The spoken word poetry piece must be original composition and should be written in
both English and Tagalog.
3.) The piece must be related to the theme and must contain mathematical terms.
4.) Sounds, instrumental and music background is allowed to complement the delivery.
5.) Each contestant is given 7 minutes for the delivery of his/ her word spoken poetry.
Deduction of 1 point per minute must be given in excess of the time allotment.
