success- Henry Ford

WHAT IS TEAMWORK?

Teamwork is when a group of individuals with a very common vision pool resources to bring
that vision or goal to fruition.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF TEAMWORK AND IMPORTANT LESSONS LEARNT

1. THE COUNSEL OF JETHRO (Exodus 18:13-26). Lessons include:

-team up with people who are responsible and most importantly share the same vision
-teamwork prevents us from easily wearing out and becoming negatively isolated
-tasks are achieved faster which saves time and helps us to focus our energies on other
salient things.

2. APPOINTING THE SEVENTY-TWO (Luke 10:1-3)

Jesus is a team builder and far more than 12 disciples had been following him. Lessons
include:
-Jesus sent them ahead in pairs for accountability and as a means to curb intimidation
-They returned with victory (Luke 10:17)
-Collective discipleship- helped build each other and serve as check for one another

3. THE FOUR FRIENDS OF THE PARALYZED MAN (MARK 2:1-5). Lessons include:

-Teamwork helps to cover and heal the weaknesses of others (be your brother’s keeper).

-Regardless of the limitations, purpose can always be fulfilled because each individual has a
special quality which distinctively may be lacking in the other person

Tools For Effective Teamwork
1. Don’t be the weak link (The power of individualism). Know that you are needed as an
individual so develop your capabilities so you don’t become a liability to the group,
fellowship or team you belong to.
1 Thess 4:11-12, 1 Cor 12:7, 1 Cor 12:14-25
2. Follow the visionary- it is good to have a personal vision but in a group it must all be
brought and merged with that of the leader to promote unity of direction and espirit de
corps (spirit of cooperation).
Heb 13:7, 1 Cor 11:1
3. Work hard and finish your part-because God did.
Gen 2:2, John 4:34, Acts 20:24, Gal 6:4
4. Be united and avoid unresolved conflicts and bitter rivalries
Don’t compare yourself with others. It is the surest and inevitable way to get discouraged in
life. Just learn from them. Eph 4:31, 2 Cor 10:12
