iv. Review
Activity 1: Roll the die!
Instruction: Let us recall from our previous lesson the following concepts on probability.
Ask student to roll the die to determine who will answer the first question; continue the
process until all of the questions answered.

If R is the set of colors in a rainbow and F is the set of colors in the Philippine
flag, a) name the elements of each set and b) their cardinality. Find the c) union
and d) intersection of these two sets.
B. Establishing a
Purpose for the
Reading of Objectives
Lesson

C. Presenting
Examples/Instances
of the Lesson

What number may turn up on the die if Daryll will roll it so that he will be the one to play
first?
D. Discussing New
Concepts and
Practicing New
Skills #1

Example 1.
From the situation presented, P(E) where E is the event that “ the die shows either 5 or 6”.
Cardinality- n(S)= 6
1
Let A be the event that the die shows a 5, then P(A)=
6
1
Let B be the event that the dies shows 6, then P(B)=
6
1 1 2 1
𝑃(𝐸)=𝑃(𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑤𝑠 𝑎 5 𝑜𝑟 𝑎 6)=𝑷(𝑨∪𝑩)= 𝑃(𝐴)+𝑃(𝐵)= + = =
6 6 6 3

Therefore, the probability that Daryll will play first is .
3

Example 2.
A bag contains 4 blue marbles, 8 green marbles and 6 red marbles. Carlo draws one ball at
random. What is the probability that the marble is either red or green?

E. Discussing New
Concepts and Activity 2: Group Activity:
Practicing New The teacher will group the class into 3 groups. Then present the situation below.
Skills #2
During COVID-19 , nobody can go out without wearing a face
mask. Mark has 15 disposable face masks: 4 are red, 6 are blue
and 5 are green.
Given the situation, each group will pick their questions randomly from box given. Then, find the
probability of the union of the two events from their picked questions. The class will present their
work through reporting.

They will be graded by the following rubrics:

Criteria 4 3 2 1
All answers are Out of 5, 4 Out of 5 , 3 Out of 5, 2 or 1

Processing Questions :
 How did you find the activity?
 Will you able to find the probability of the union of the two events?
 How did you find the probability of the union of your choosing colors of the
face masks?
F. Developing
Mastery Activity 3: Pass the die Activity!
(Leads to The students will pass the die while singing the song “BAHAY KUBO”, as the lyrics of the
Formative song falls under the vegetable word, the one who hold the die is the one who answer the
Assessment 3) question.
Problem for the activity:
A card is drawn at random from a standard deck of 52 cards. What is the probability of
drawing an ace, a 10 or a king?
Questions:
1.What is the probability of getting an ace?
2.What is the probability of getting a 10?
3.What is the probability of getting a king?
4.Find the P( ace or 10 or king)?

G. Finding The teacher will ask the following questions:

Practical
Applications of 1. Do you think mutually exclusive events exist in real-life situations? Give
Concepts and example.
Skills in Daily 2. How about in choosing your strand in SHS in the future, we have GAS,
Living STEM, HUMSS, TVL and ABM. (The teacher will ask some learners what
strand they want, at least two). What is the probability of getting that
strands?

H. Making The teacher will ask the following questions for the generalization.
Generalizations and
Abstractions about 1. What learning have you gained from this topic?
the Lesson 2. How are you going to illustrate the probability of mutually exclusive events?
3. Is it easy for you to find the probability of the union of two events?

I. Evaluating DIRECTION: Read answer the each item carefully. Write the letter of your answer in the
Learning space provided before each number.

random from a standard deck of 52 cards?
A. Choosing a 9 or a diamond C. Choosing a king or a queen
B. Choosing an ace or a red card D. All of the above

_____2. Which of the following are mutually exclusive events when a fair die is rolled?
A. Getting a number less than 3 or a multiple of 3
B. Getting a factor of 4 and a number divisible by 2
C. Getting an odd number and a factor of 3
D. Getting a 2 and a prime number
_____3.Hermie rolled a fair die once. What is the probability that a 4 or a prime number will
turn up?
A. 1/6 B. 1/3 C. ½ D. 2/3
_____4. A card is drawn from a standard deck of 52 cards. What is the probability of
drawing a 3 or a face card?
A. 1/13 B. 2/13 C. 3/13 D. 4/13
