Greetings!

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a retrovirus that destroys or impairs the cells of the immune
system. As HIV infection progresses, a person becomes more susceptible to infections. The most
advanced stage of HIV infection is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It can take 10-15
years for an HIV-infected person to develop AIDS, although antiretroviral drugs can slow down the
process.

Every year, on 1 December, the world commemorates World AIDS Day. People around the world
unite to show support for people living with and affected by HIV and to remember those who lost
their lives to AIDS. We can prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS with ABCDE (please see the attachment).
Attached is a poster for World AIDS Day that you can display in various locations on the site. Let's
focus on preventing the virus, and working safely with, and supporting those who may be affected
personally or who may have a family member who is affected.
