BRIEF INTRODUCTION

This modules will cover the topic the different set of tools, materials and equipment in
assembling and disassembling as well as dismantling the evaporator/condenser of a
Window Type Air conditioner. This module will also deal with Standard Operating
Procedure when assembling and disassembling the evaporator and condenser of a Window
Type Air Conditioning unit.

TOPIC

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

OBJECTIVE
S
• Differentiate condenser from an evaporator
• Identify the set of tools, materials and equipment in assembling and disassembling as
well as dismantling the evaporator/condenser of a Window Type Air conditioner tools.
• Be familiar with the tools, materials and equipment in assembling and disassembling
as well as dismantling the evaporator/condenser of a Window Type Air conditioner
tools.

Window Type

Tools, Materials and Equipment in Assembling and disassembling Dismantling the

evaporator/condenser of a Window Type
It is very important for a student to use suitable tools for assembling, disassembling
the evaporator and the condenser of a window type AC because this will surely enhance and
speed up the work. An article published in (“Common Aircon Condenser”, 2019) states that
it is the refrigerant or coolant that is responsible for collecting and removing heat within a
room and emitting this heat into the external atmosphere. The refrigerant is cooled at the
condenser into a warm liquid, and passes through a pipe into the evaporator coil where it
expands and cools. After the refrigerant then now clears out the evaporator within the shape
of hot, high-pressure gas and enters through the Suction Line.

4
Air-Conditioning Unit actually do not “produces” cold temperature, it is the
evaporator core where refrigerant that absorbs the heat from the air, carry the heat then
release it. The absorbs heat will travel via the copper tubing to the condenser. This
refrigerant will constantly circulates to remove more heat until the AC thermostat reached
the air temperature thus produces cooling effect. Evaporator coils are usually made from
copper or aluminum because this type of metals are good conductor of heat.

Tools, Materials and Equipment Function

It is a type of wrench where the jaw can be

adjustable. A handheld tool that is very useful in
AC repair. It can be used to loosen and tightens
bolts and nuts with different sizes.

Adjustable Wrench
It is the most common type of wrench that can
be used for AC repair. It has two U-Shaped ends
but different in sizes, one is usually bigger than
the other. Because of its design it makes
possible to use in a hard to reach nuts and bolts.

Open Ended Wrench

As the name implies, it has a T-bar handle and is
designed to fit in tight spaces for loosen and
tighten screws and bolts

T-Wrench
Oftentimes called the hex key, these are used to
loosen and tighten socket cap type screws
(Hexagonal Head Screws). The hexagonal rod is
usually made of steel that is bent like an “L”
shape with unequal arm’s length.

Allen Wrench

5
It is one of the most common type of
screwdriver. The tip has a flat-chisel shape blade
that is used to turn, fasten and loosen bolts and
screws.

Standard Flat Head Screw Driver

It is one of most popular and versatile type of
screw driver. It is called Phillip Screw because
of its cross-head tip shape. It can be used to turn,
fasten and loosen bolts and screws.

Philip Screw Driver

It is multipurpose tool that is typically used for
gripping, holding, bending, twisting and cutting
small various materials. Because of its long and
elongated jaw it can reach tight inaccessible
spaces.

Long Nose Plier

It is called combination pliers because it can
perform multiple jobs. Unlike long nose pliers,
this type of pliers have shorter narrow jaws that
can easily compress and grips various materials.

Combination Pliers
MAPP stands for (methylacetylene-propadiene
propane), it is a type of portable flame torch
device and because of its high flame temperature
it can be used for to heat various materials. It can
also be used soldering and even welding objects.

Mapp Gas Torch

6
A water-displacing spray is a material that
displaces water to protects against corrosion. It is
also ideal to used a lubricants because it can
penetrates thus protecting small components
such as hinges nuts, bolts and screws.
One of the most popular water-displacing spray
is the WD40.

Activity 2: Checking Your Understanding

Direction: Match Column A with Column B. Write your answer on the space before each
number.

COLUMN A COLUMN B
_____ 1.It is a handheld tool were tip has a A. Allen Wrench
flat-chisel shape blade that is used to turn,
fasten and loosen bolts and screws.

grips various materials.
_____ 5. Its rod is usually made of steel E. T-Wrench
that is bent like an “L” shape with unequal
arm’s length.

7
REMEMBER
Standard operating procedures (SOPs) are step by step work processes or
guidelines that every employees needs to follow. When an organization has a SOPs
to follow, they produce a quality and consistent products. Likewise an AC technician
needs to use proper tools when assembling/disassembling a condenser. It is also
important to use PPEs when repairing an AC.
