CHAPTER I
As time pass we age, with that our skin, becomes wrinkly, our bones become
fragile, and many more. The reason I want to lunch this study is that I want people to
maintain their beautiful and healthy skin that is cheap and trustworthy.
2
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The main objective of this study is to make an alternative and effective treatment using
the Lycopene content in Tomato (Solanum lycopersium) seed extract as the main
ingredient in making an organic anti-wrinkle serum. This study also attempts to test the
effectiveness of Tomato seed extract as substitute to the other commercial product.
This study will answer the following questions:
1. Is Tomato seed extract possible to be used as the main ingredient in making an
organic anti-wrinkle serum?
2. Does the Tomato seed extract serum is effective in avoiding wrinkles in the
face?
3. To what amount of organic Tomato seed serum drop is most effective in avoiding
wrinkles in the face?
3
HYPOTHESES

3. To what amount of organic Tomato seed serum drop is most effective in avoiding
wrinkles in the face?
HO: There is no amount of organic Tomato seed serum drop that is effective in
avoiding wrinkles in the face.
HA: There is an amount of organic Tomato seed serum drop that is effective in
avoiding wrinkles in the face.
4
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The significance of the study is to make a cheaper and effective alternative medicine in
normalizing blood sugar. This study will contribute to the following:
To the Community: Since many people get wrinkles as they age and the products that
are in the store are a lot expensive the researcher thought of doing a study to make a
cheaper and effective alternative in avoiding wrinkles and still maintain the tightness of
the skin.
To the Future Researcher: This study will serve as their guide for further innovation and
more information about the Lycopene content of the Tomato seed.
To the Researcher Herself: This study will help the researcher to attain more knowledge
and skills for the improvement of the study, and explore more about the properties of the
Tomato Seed.
5
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
This study will focus only on the Lycopene content in Tomato (Solanum lycopersium)
Seed extract as the main ingredient in making an organic anti-wrinkle serum. The
results will be used as an alternative in avoiding wrinkles. The researcher will gather all
materials needed at Blk 11 Lot 5 Phase 2 BellaVita Subdivision, Brgy Tapia, General
Trias City of Cavite.

DEFINITION OF KEY TERMS
During the investigation, the researcher comes across a term that we are unfamiliar with
Hopefully, the glossary of terms and their definitions will provide comprehension to the
readers.
Serum- an amber-colored, protein-rich liquid that separates out when blood coagulates.
Lycopene- a red carotenoid pigment present in tomatoes and many berries and fruits.

AND STUDIES
REVIEW OF RELATED LEGAL BASES
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (formerly the Bureau of
Food and Drugs) created under the Department of Health “All cosmetic establishments
shall first secure the LTO or authorization from FDA prior to engaging in the
manufacture, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, transfer,
promotion, advertisement and for sponsorship of any activity that involves cosmetics.
They must continuously comply with the existing requirements, regulations and
standards and under the supervision of a qualified person as required by the
regulations. The responsibility of ensuring the safety, quality, and when applicable, the
efficacy and/or purity of health products, shall rest upon all the establishments or
persons involved in the production, sale, handling, packing, transport, distribution,
trading and storage thereof.”
Republic act no. 3720 is an act to ensure the safety and purity of foods, drugs,
and cosmetics being made available to the public by creating the food and drug
administration which shall administer and enforce the laws pertaining thereto.

REVIEW OF RELATED FOREIGN STUDIES
Lavecchia, Zuorro (2012) wrote “Big amounts of tomato peel and seed are going to waste,
and this waste is rich in lycopene with antioxidant and chemopreventive properties and
many more nutrients.”
Another study on the topic by (Biswas, 2019) maintains that there is a huge amount of
lycopene in tomatoes which is a source of antioxidant vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K,
potassium, and folate, wherein can avoid heart risk and cancer. Putting or rubbing
tomatoes every day on your skin can shrink pores and clean the skin, because of the rich
amount of lycopene and antioxidants making skin tight and keep away from wrinkles.
Pavey (2020) stated that lycopene can keep the natural firmness of the skin, avoiding
wrinkles and having young and healthy skin.

DEFINITION OF KEY TERMS
During the investigation, the researcher comes across a term that we are unfamiliar with
Hopefully, the glossary of terms and their definitions will provide comprehension to the
readers.
Antioxidant- A substance that protects cells from the damage caused by free radicals.
Chemopreventive- The use of drugs, vitamins, or other agents to try to reduce the risk
of, or delay the development or recurrence of, cancer.
Lycopene- A red carotenoid pigment present in tomatoes and many berries and fruits.
Folate- A nutrient in the vitamin B complex that the body needs in small amounts to
function and stay healthy.

Research Materials and Procedure
INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE PROCEDURE
To be able to test the effectiveness and possibility of Tomato Seed as the main
variable in crafting the anti-wrinkle serum. Below the researcher will perform the
methodology. The procedure is subdivided into 4 parts which are the collection of the
materials, the process of making the tomato seed serum, making of the final product,
and the comparison, the researcher executes three set-ups containing different amount
of drop of the tomato seed extract anti-wrinkle serum. Safety measures shall be
observed in the experimentation proper.
D. TRIALS / SET-UP
For the trial proper, the researcher prepares all the ingredients that needs
to be added in each set-up and Tomato Seed Serum. For the 1st set-up 3 drops of the
serum is going to be used, for the 2nd set-up 4 drops of serum is going to be used, and
for the 3rd set-up 5 drop of the serum is going to be used. The amount of drops will
determine what amount of the Tomato Seed Anti-wrinkle Serum is more effective.

RISK AND SAFETY (PRECAUTIONS)
The researcher was directed by the following risk and safety precautions
while carrying out the experimental output in order to conduct the study safely.
