PROJECT BRIEF

A CLIENT has appointed your team for the structural engineering work of a new proposed Office
Block. This Office Block must be a 3-storey building with a footprint (plan area) of 30m x 15m.

This appointment of your team, is at Preliminary Design Stage:

• New Proposed 3-story Office block located in East London.

The Scope of work is as follows:

1. Full Frame analysis (use a software. i.e., Prokon, STAAD Pro)

2. Preliminary Design of Building:
➢ Foundation design
➢ Column design
➢ Design of beams (if opted for solid slab)
➢ Design of suspended floor slab level (solid or flat)
➢ Concrete Drawings, showing the following:
▪ Plan Layout: Grid Spacing with foundation (pad footings) & column sizes
▪ Plan Layout of suspended slab, whether a solid slab with beam & columns or flat slab
with columns (and, if with column heads or drops).
▪ Cross-section of full building
3. Location: Team to choose the area for the Office Block in East London, indicate in Design
Report!

The team /group will present (submit) a neat Design Report, containing the following:
a) Write-up
b) Annexures:
▪ Drawing Layouts with sizes
▪ Calculations

The group or team will be marked, based on the flowing:

NB. Design Report is compulsory. Failure to submit a Design Report (Write-up) is an automatic FAIL!!
