Thanks I walked in Germany, sometimes over 20 kilometers

a day. Across fields, from one place to another, Eibau,
Libraryresidence / Seija Kerttula Ebersbach, Neugersdorf, Mittelherwigsdorf…
Galleria Pogo / Mia Paju The sketchbook was filled with pictures of local houses,
those with Umgebinde features of architectural walls.
Umgebinde is a general Fachwerk in eastern Germany.

Why this topic? Because angles and grids resonate with

what I was looking for, the simple colorful reproduction

and modification of structures, simultaneous
construction and demolition, and the use of white in
paintings equated with bright colors.

I immersed architectural details but also references

to 20th Century Visual Art Styles. Intersections to the
modern: An utopian enthusiasm to renew one’s own
painting, a sense of moving forward. References
to constructivism: Rhythm, color relationships and
surfaces. References to reductionism: Close to the
monotonous repetitions of serial minimalism, then
returning to the organic forms. Absurdist references:
Romantic hiking art, simple searching for angles and
Und-Und search. Conceptualist references: Simple
Miika Nyyssönen design language producing layers of thought. From a
Traveler’s Structures wide range of intentions and real events, which change
Galleria Pogo previous purposes, become unique in the making of
Helsinki, Finland the paintings, a concoction that I guess could not have

Artist
Miika Nyyssönen is a visual artist living in Helsinki,
Finland. He studied art in Helsinki Academy of Fine
Arts during 90’s, and since then he had worked as an
artist making sculptures, paintings, installations and
computer-based arts. Nyyssönen’s works has been
shown widely in Finland, and also several times in other
countries like Germany, Russia and USA. His works are in
museums and private collections.
