3-General Safety Instructions

In order to ensure the safe operation and optimal performance of the product,
please follow these warnings and cautions in addition to the other information
contained elsewhere in this document.

1.Specular Reflection

There are often numerous secondary laser beams produced at various angles
in the output port of the laser. These divergent beams are produced when the
primary beam of laser reflects off a smooth surface, and they are called specular
reflections. Although these secondary beams may be less powerful than the
total power emitted from the primary beam, the intensity may be great enough to
cause damage to the eyes and skin as well as surface of materials.

WARNING:

◎ You must exercise caution to avoid/minimize specular reflections as these

laser radiations are invisible!

2.Safety Instructions of Accessories

WARNING:

◎ This device has an output optical head connected to the laser with a fiber
cable. Please be careful dealing with the output head.

3.Optical Operating Instructions

We strongly recommend that you read the following procedures before operating
the laser:

(1)Never look directly into the laser output port when the power is turned on.

(2)Avoid positioning the laser and all optical output components at eye level.

(3)Ensure that all personal protective equipment is suitable for the output
power and wavelength range of the laser.

(4)Do not install or detach cutting heads or collimators when laser is active.
Chapter 2 General Safety Information 9

(5)It is forbidden to turn on the laser during the mounting of fiber or cutting
head. Carry out commissioning, calibration and focusing at low output power
and then increase the output power gradually when the calibrating and focusing
work is done.

(6)Please use the defocus method to mark on the high-reflection material, or

make the laser irradiate the surface of the material at a certain angle, otherwise
the laser will be directly damaged.

(7)For collimated outputs, maintaining a clean output lens is essential.Always

close (re-cap) the collimator after use. Do not touch the output lens and do not
clean it with any solvents.Cleaning with the special solvent and cleaning buds is
allowed as described later on in th is manual.

(8)For field lenses with a focal length of 510mm and above, the paint removal
effect cannot be guaranteed for the time being.

(9)Ordinary K9 glass optical field lenses are prone to "thermal lens effect"
in high-power application scenarios, resulting in focus shifts, inconsistent spot
sizes, or unstable light output when processing materials. It is recommended
that customers use quartz optical field lenses in conjunction with lasers.

WARNING :

◎ Make sure that the individual protective equipment meets the output power
and wavelength range of the laser.

◎ Never look directly into the optical fiber or the collimator, and use appropriate
laser safety eyewear when operating this device.

(3) Pin 9 is the latch control signal for the laser latch power setting (Pin 1~8),
and the rising edge of Pin 9 is used to latch the data. The data of Pins 1~8
remain stable outside 1µs before and after the rising edge of Pin 9. The Pin
1~9 data is not required to be stable outside the above mentioned time frame.
Chuangxin Laser recommends using a single positive pulse greater than 2 µs
to store data (for a latch frequency lower than 10 kHz, the interval between
adjacent latch pulses should be greater than 100 µs).

(4) Pin 11, Pin 12, Pin 16, and Pin 21 indicate the alarm output and output
status, and Pin 11 and Pin 12 are reserved for future expansion of the alarm
code. These pins indicate the attribute status as follows:

Pin12 Pin11 Pin16 Pin21 Alarm description

Χ Χ L L Temperature exceeded
Χ Χ H L PD alarm
Χ Χ L H Normal work
Χ Χ X X Reserved

CAUTION :

◎ In any alarm state, the laser automatically shuts down and triggers an internal
alarm signal. If you want to continue working after an alarm, the internal alarm
indication needs to be reset and the circuit module needs to be restarted. Pin
18 and Pin 19 need to be set to low level. The Pin 11, Pin 12, Pin 16 and Pin 21
alarm output returns to the normal state, and the alarm indication is reset at the
same time (except for the return light alarm).

(5) Pin 18 (EE) provides the transmission enable signal, and the transmission
control signal is turned on at least 5 ms before the transmission. After turning
on, the laser consumes more power, even when Pin 9 (EM) is at a low level, the
laser still has residual light output. The optical power depends on the working
state of the laser. High contrast ensures low residual light output.
Chapter 5 Operation Guide 23

CAUTION :

◎ Pin 18 is high before the PCB is powered on, and the laser does not
recognize that the enable emission is turned on. In order to make Pin 18 in
the emitting state, Pin 18 must be reset after the laser is warmed up, and then
reloaded with high level. If Pin 19 is also at a high level before the PCB is
powered on, Pin 19 must be pulled to a low level at the same time.

(6) Pin 19 is the transmit modulation input, and the Pin 19 input is galvanically
isolated from other interface inputs. High-level emission is turned on, and low-
level is turned off. When Pin 19 is loaded with a high level, the laser will be
emitted after the specified delay time, and when the pin 19 is loaded with a low
level, it will stop emitting the laser after the specified delay time.

CAUTION :

◎ 5ms after the EE enable signal is loaded, the laser emission (EM) is turned
on. When EE OFF and EM ON, there is no laser output. When EM ON followed
by EE ON, the laser will start to output after 5ms.

◎ Before the PCB is powered on, if Pin 19 is loaded with a high level, the laser
will not recognize the open state of the EM. Pin 19 needs to be pulled down to
reset, and then set to high again. Before the PCB is powered on, if Pin 18 is also
at a high level, it must be removed at the same time.

(7) Pin 20 is a synchronous frequency input. A pulse train of a certain repetition

frequency is loaded for Pin 20 within the specified frequency working range,
and the laser emits pulses synchronously with the rising edge of the signal.
The allowable duty cycle of the square wave signal is 0.1 to 0.9, and 0.5 duty
cycle is recommended. The change of the duty cycle does not affect the output
characteristics of the laser.
24 Chapter 5 Operation Guide

CAUTION :

◎ After the pulse repetition frequency exceeds the specified range, the laser
safety circuit will supplement the missing pulse or limit the repetition frequency.

(8) Pin 22 controls and indicates the state of the red light. The red light turns on
at high level, and turns off at low level. If there is no indication laser option, Pin
22 can be grounded or suspended. For pulse width modulation communication
interface, control bus, data and clock bus, please refer to Pin2 and Pin3.
Communication is allowed only when the level is high.

CAUTION :

◎ Indicates that the red light is not allowed to work with the laser at the same
time. The priority of the red light is higher than that of the laser. For example,
when Pin18 is high and Pin19 is low, then the red light pin Pin22 gives a valid
signal, then the red light will Turn on, and the laser automatically turns off; when
both Pin18 and Pin19 are turned on, the red light pin Pin22 gives a valid signal,
and the red light is not output.

(9)Pin 23 is the emergency stop input. The normal working state is set to a
high level state. When in low level, the laser is automatically turned off. The low
level must be loaded on Pin 18 and Pin 19 to restart the laser. Before restarting,
it shows that the laser is not ready to emit an alarm. To work normally, the high-
level signal loaded on Pin 23 must be set at least 2 μs before the high-level
signal loaded on Pin 18 and Pin 19.
Chapter 5 Operation Guide 25

2-Laser Operation Using Digital Interface

1 .Operation Steps

(1)Remove the protection cap from the laser output optical head.

(2)Connect the laser module to the control system via DB-25 connector. Use
pins according to the description above. Refer to 5.2.2 Digital Control Interface
(DB-25) Description.

(3)Recommended initial state of control pins:

Pins 18,19,22 LOW

Pin 23 HIGH

Pin 20 Repetition rate within the specified range

(4)Connect power supply sources to the laser as described above.

(5)220 V AC voltage is applied to the laser, and the laser is ready to work
after warming up for 10 seconds;

(6)Set desired power via pin 1-8. Apply the latch pulsed to the pin 9 to store
the power settings into the laser.

(7)Switch the EE ON applying HIGH to the pin 18.

(8)Wait 5 ms.

(9)Laser can be fast modulated via Pin 19 and the laser state of ON or OFF
can be set with a HIGH or LOW input signal respectively. Switching ON/OFF
of the laser has a finite rise/fall time (refer to the specification for the particular
model). The time of the modulation should not be less than the sum of rise and
fall times, otherwise laser optical response may not be as expected.

(10)If the EM OFF time between subsequent ON/OFF batches (jobs) is more
than 500 ms, it is recommended to switch OFF the Emission Enable pin. This will
reduce power consumption, avoid unnecessary aging of the laser and eliminate
the residual MO power at the laser output.
26 Chapter 5 Operation Guide

(11) After finishing the laser operation, switch OFF the EM and EE (set LOW
to pin 19 and pin 18).

(12)Remove all power supplies.

2 .Operation Features

(1) Change the pulse frequency of the laser by adjusting the frequency of the
Pin 20 loading signal. The built-in frequency generator of the laser ensures
that the driving oscillator works at the correct optical frequency. The built-in
generator is a slave circuit, controlled by the master pulse loaded by Pin 20. The
control circuit appropriately adjusts the frequency of the internal generator to
synchronize the slave pulse with the master pulse. ;

(2) If the Pin 20 main pulse frequency is greater than the maximum allowable
value, the laser works at the maximum specified frequency; if the Pin 20 main
pulse frequency is lower than the minimum allowable frequency, the laser works
at the minimum specified frequency;

(3) When the laser is working, the set power of the laser can be changed by
updating the power setting value of Pin 1~8 and the lock of Pin 9;

(4) If Pin 18 and Pin 19 are at low level, there is no laser output;

(5) If the laser output has residual light when EE ON, EM OFF, the size depends
on the type and working mode of the laser;

(6) If EE ON, EM ON and zero power setting (Pin 1~8 are set to low level) laser
output has residual light, the size depends on the laser type and working mode;

(7) When the laser is working, the red light can be turned on through Pin 22.
When EE and EM are in the OFF state, turn on the red light indicator. If one
of EE or EM is in the ON state, the laser emission will automatically stop. To
resume laser work, Pin 18 and Pin 19 must be in a low level state. Only when
Pin 22 is set to low level, can EE and EM be turned on;

(8) If the working temperature of the laser is higher or lower than the specified
temperature range, the laser will automatically shut down; Pin 11, Pin 12, Pin

signals. If the alarm signal is not reset, the laser will not work normally;

(9) If the temperature of the laser module exceeds a certain temperature, the
laser will automatically shut down and output corresponding alarm signals
on Pin 16 and Pin 21 at the same time. After the alarm signal appears, if the
temperature drops below a certain temperature, the laser will not resume work,
and the alarm signal will remain unchanged until the main power supply is turned
off.

3-Pulsed Adjustment

1.Hardware parts configuration

Pins standard-DB25, 25 pins. Pin 1 to Pin 25.

DB25-PIN2 - SDI

DB25-PIN22- EN

Hardware logic as below:

D0
DD1 DD2 DD3 DD4 DD5 D Dn
D

Sample the input data at the rising edge of SCL when EN is HIGH valid.

2.Protocal

High nibble first, pulsed duration setting range is within 4BYTE, 32bit.

[HEAD] ->[PulsedWIDTH]
28 Chapter 5 Operation Guide

2BYTE 2BYTE

HEAD = 0x A501

PulsedWIDTH = the value of pulsed width

Bytes sequence is as follows,

10ns=0x A501000A, 32bit are send from high to low.

4-Timing Control

1.Switch machine

(1) Start up

After the laser cable is connected, ensure that 5 ms of interface initialization

time is reserved, and then power on the laser. After the laser power is turned on,
it is necessary to reserve 10 s to ensure that the laser initialization is completed,
and then the light emission control can be performed.

(2) Shut down

In the light-emitting state, after the EE is pulled low, at least 1 μs is reserved to

turn off the laser power.
Chapter 5 Operation Guide 29

2.Sold out

(1) Light out

When the power is set, pull EE high first, then pull EM high after the waiting time
is greater than 5 ms. After EM is pulled high, the laser machine starts to output
laser after a certain time delay. The delay time of different lasers is different, and
the typical value is 200 ns.

(2) Guan Guang

Pull EM low, the laser turns off the light, wait for more than 1 μs, pull EE low, the
laser exits the light state.

3.Set power

(1) Setting the power

Configure the power value for the PWR signal. After waiting at least 1 μs, pull
the Latch signal high and keep it high for more than 2 μs. The power value will
be locked on the rising edge of the latch signal. The PWR configuration value
must remain unchanged for 1 μs before and after the rising edge of the latch
signal.

(2) Change the power

The laser can reset the power value at any working time. The time interval
between two power settings must be greater than 4 μs. After the power is
latched, it will take effect at the next light output.
30 Chapter 5 Operation Guide

4.Red light control

(1) Turn on the red light

Pull down the EE and EM signals and wait for more than 1 μs. Pull the RedLed
signal high and wait 512 ms for the red light output.

(2) Guan Hongguang

Pull down the RedLed signal and the red light will turn off immediately. When the
waiting time is greater than 1 μs, the laser enters the normal operating state.

5.STOP emergency stop and recovery

(1) Stop pulls down the emergency stop

When Stop is high, the laser can work normally. When Stop is pulled low to a low
level, the emergency stop takes effect. If the laser is in the light emitting state,
the laser will stop emitting light after 100 ms.

(2) Recovery after emergency stop

After Stop is pulled low, pull it up again to resume the laser operation. After the
laser is checked to a high level, it needs to delay 1000 ms to restore the laser to
its normal working state.
Chapter 5 Operation Guide 31

5-Input and output electrical characteristics

1.Digital signal input

Note: The input signal voltage amplitude should be limited to 5±2V;

2.Digital signal output

The output is 5V, and the maximum output drive current is 10 mA.

(1) Different pulse width, frequency and power can be selected according to
different materials and marking purposes;

(2) As shown in the figure above, when the pulse repetition frequency ≥ the
reduced power frequency, the laser can output at full power, and when it is less
than the reduced power frequency, the laser will simultaneously reduce the
output power in order to protect the laser amplification system.

Example: MFPT-300CL, when the pulse width is set to 500 ns, if the pulse
repetition frequency is less than 25 kHz, the maximum output power will
decrease as the frequency decreases; and if the pulse repetition frequency is
greater than 25 kHz, the maximum output power is Full power 300 W.
