PLAN
IN TEACHING SCIENCE IN THE ELEMENTARY GRADES
Prepared by:
I. OBJECTIVE
During the 45 minutes per session, at least 85% of the students are expected to:
a. Identify some animals that undergo complete metamorphosis in their life cycle.
b. Recognize the different stages of the life cycle of animals undergoing complete
metamorphosis
III.PROCEDURE
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
a. Prayer
The teacher will ask who will be volunteering in leading the Opening prayer among the
students
b. Drill/Energizer
The teacher will ask the students to listen and dance along with the music entitled “If
Animals Dance”
c. Motivation
a. Show a collection of the live butterflies (2-3 will do)
The teacher will ask the students
Can you describe the appearance of these creatures?
Do you know where these creatures came from?
d. Review
The teacher will ask the students
Which of the following is monocot?
a. mango c. calamansi
b. rice d. mongo
Which factors does not affect plant growth and development?
a. soil c. water
b. sunlight d. plastic container
Will a plant grow healthy, if one factor is absent?
B. LESSON PROPER
a. Activity
The teacher will give starting activity-- the “Sing a Song”
The teacher will post on the board the lyrics of the song “The Butterfly Life”
THE BUTTERFLY LIFE
A butterfly begins
By laying all her eggs
Out pops a caterpillar
Crawling on its legs
The caterpillar first is
Very, very thin
But it eats and eats and eats
Till it burst out through its skin!

c. Abstraction
What do you call to the process that is happening on the life cycle of Butterfly, mosquito and
fly?
o Metamorphosis process- it is the biological process by which an animal physically
develops after birth or hatching it is part of the life cycle of the most insects.
o Metamorphosis refers to the way insects develop, grow, and change from, usually (but
not always) accompanied b7 change of habitat or behavior and there are two types of
metamorphosis complete and gradual.
What is a life cycle?
o Life cycle is a period involving one generation of an organism
What are the different stages of life cycle?
o Egg- a female insect lays egg
o Larvae- hatch from egg but do not look adult insects. For instance, the larvae of
butterflies are caterpillars. Larvae grow quickly enough to molt or shed their
exoskeletons a few times before the pupate. Sometimes, these states of growth in larvae
are called “instars”
o Pupa- Larvae make cocoon around themselves, and become busy changing into their
adult forms. The do not eat during this time. This can take few days, or some cases
months.
o Adult- after a period of time, larvae is nothing like it was, and exits the cocoon or larva
body as an adult. This life cycles stars over again.
The teacher will show another video about the Life Cycle of Butterfly, Mosquito, and fly.
The teacher will conduct recitation about the video.
d. Application
The teacher will ask the students to create a life cycle picture of any of the three insects using
the Activity sheet number 2.
The teacher will ask the students to post their output on the bulletin board
The teacher will pair up the students who chose different insects
The teacher will let the students to explain the drawing s/he made to his or her partner
After the presentation the teacher will let the students pick out one of his/her classmates’ life
cycle pictures to review. And the teacher will tell the students to write their name and complete
this sentence.

The students will tape their review next to the picture they chose to evaluate.
IV. ASSESSMENT
In an at least 1-5 sentences explain what you have learned about
a. the life cycle of selected animals the butterfly, fly and mosquito
b. complete metamorphosis.

Write a diary of the animal as it moves through its life cycle. You may choose to write about animal
they worked on during the paired activity that will be submitted after three days.
