Ancient India is full of mystery.

Yet, there is no doubt to call it an era which has been

witnessed with various inventions on Science, technology, Architecture, culture and
many more.

Human beings are prone to evolve with time. Using the God gifted IQ, humans have
been authoritative for numerous inventions. One of the fields that saw the most
contribution is Science & Technology.

In the Ancient Indian era, Science & Technology has flourished exponentially.

ASTRONOMY:
Dated back to the Indus Valley Civilization, the knowledge of Astronomy is pretty
evident. This is the period when The sun, the source of life on earth, transits into
capricorn and moves into the northern hemisphere. It is dated back to 1500 BCE or
earlier when Varahamihira, Aryabhata, Bhaskara, Brahmagupta and others were the
great contributors in Indian Astronomy.

MATHEMATICS:
India produced great scientists and their discoveries are well known till ages.
Baudhayana in 800 BCE calculated the value of pi and discovered the concept of
pythagoras’ theorem.
Brahmagupta wrote several books on mathematics and astronomy. The concept of the
number system is also one of the great contributions in the history of mathematics,
which is now known as the Arabic system. The number system enables all numbers to
be expressed with 10 symbols-from 1 to 9 and 0(zero). Brahmagupta also put forth the
concepts of zero, geometry, trigonometry, cubes, cub roots, square and square roots.

SCIENCE:
‘Earth is round’ - this concept dates back to 500 CE, where Aryabhata and
Brahmagupta proposed the same. The gravitational force was already described back
then only expressing the nature of the earth and how it attracts objects towards it.

Bhaskaryacharya had calculated the time taken for the earth to travel around the sun-
365.2588 days which is a 3.5 minutes difference from the modern calculation,
365.25636 without using any computing system.

Undoubtedly, Issac Newton and Euclid were given credits for introductions of calculus
and geometry, but it also has the origin of India. Bhaskaracharya wrote about
geometry, algebra, calculus ,500 years before their introduction.
MEDICINE:
Back in the ancient day, Sushruta was a great surgeon who used 125 different surgical
instruments and herbal sprays to operate and prevent sepsis. He was also a great
contributor in plastic surgery and cataract removal.

Yoga is the ultimate discovery of Patanjali and has been praised worldwide till now. In
200 BCE, the concept of atoms and gravity and the universe being made up of atoms
was discovered by Kanada. Nagarjuna was also a great metallurgist and chemist.

ENGINEERING
The modern time witnessed evidence of the presence of Indian Hydraulic Engineering
in Allahabad, where a tank named Sringaverapura was a remarkable water system to
take the floodwater of Ganga into a set of desilting chambers, including water wires to
make the water clean for drinking.

The modern Archaeologists also found a desert city which made lakes to collect
monsoon downfalls, bunds and inward channels to divert water and intricate the
drainage system for storm water and waste and drinking water.
