INTEGRATING READING
STRATEGIES IN CREATING A
STORY BOARD
1. ACQUISITION OF KNOWLEDGE
(25%)
Individual Task
 Compile all ISL tasks and tutorial tasks /
presentations in the portfolio. (15%)
 Read the short story given.
 Choose one or more reading strategies to
analyse and evaluate:
-the setting and characters
-theme and values
-plot and literary devices
-writer’s mood and opinions
PORTFOLIO : ISL & TUTORIAL TASKS
(INDIVIDUAL TASK)
- Systematic organisation / use dividers
- Tasks must be attempted / completed
- Relevant materials included
Pair Task
 Discuss and put the information gathered
from the short story into a graphic organizer.
Include a printout in your portfolio. (10%)
GRAPHIC ORGANISER
(PAIR TASK)
The graphic organizer must consist the
following:
 the setting and characters
 theme and values
 plot and literary devices
 writer’s mood and opinions
It must be presented clearly on A4 saiz paper
and on Power Point.
2. MASTERY OF KNOWLEDGE AND
SKILLS (25%)
Individual Task
 Write an evaluation of themes and values
based on the short story and how they relate
to your daily life.
 Write a reflection of your experience using
the reading strategies in the process of
understanding the short story and creating
the story board.
 Both the evaluation and reflection should be
in about 300 words.
WRITE AN EVALUATION OF THEMES AND VALUES
BASED ON THE SHORT STORY AND HOW THEY
RELATE TO YOUR DAILY LIFE.

 Language must be error free
 Ideas and points - well organised
 Coherent
 Clear explanation / evaluation of the themes and
values relating to own life.
WRITE A REFLECTION OF YOUR EXPERIENCE
USING THE READING STRATEGIES IN THE
PROCESS OF UNDERSTANDING THE SHORT STORY
AND CREATING THE STORY BOARD.

 State which strategy you used: SQ3R, INSERT or


KWL
 Grammatically correct language
 Well organised points / ideas
 Shows indication of your experience in using the
strategy.
3. TRANSFER OF LEARNING (35%)
Group Task
 Create a story board based on the short story. (15%)
 Conduct a 20 minute oral presentation using power
point: (20%)
a) explain the graphic organiser
b) present the story board.
 Exhibit the story board in an exhibition at the end
of semester.
WHAT IS A STORY BOARD?

A Storyboard is a graphic organizer such as a


series of illustrations or images displayed in
sequence for the purpose of previsualizing a
motion graphic or interactive media
sequence, including website interactivity.
WHAT IS A STORY BOARD?

A series of diagrams that are used to depict


the composition of a video segment.
 Each diagram consists of: a sketch of the
video image; a brief description of the
visual; notes for the camera operator; the
details of the desired audio that will
accompany the visual; and an estimate of
how long the segment will be.

STORY BOARD
(GROUP TASK – 4 IN A GROUP)
 Use a piece or several pieces of mounting board(s)
 Creative
 Use correct grammar
 Ideas presented clearly
 Authentic piece of work
 The illustration / segments should be arranged in
the correct sequence of the story
 Include captions to explain each illustration /
segments – can be in dialogue form or description
ORAL PRESENTATION
(GROUP TASK – 4 IN A GROUP)
 Content – well organised
 Excellent public speaking skills – eye contact,
good voice modulation, interaction with
audience
 Clear explanation of the story board &
graphic organiser
 Confident
 Others: state briefly the process of using the
reading strategy to understand the story &
whether it was helpful or not; brief
reflection of the issues in the story to life
 Provide a print out copy of the power point
presentation
4. ATTITUDE & PERSONALITY (15%)
 Cooperation and commitment towards the
tasks given throughout the course.
 Discuss with lecture on any issue regarding
the project.

lecturer.
