Bandung
Sea of Fire
OCTOBER 12, 1945
The agreement between the two British allies and
the Dutch NICA (Nederlands Indie Civil
Administration) led to heroic resistance from the
community and youth fighters in Bandung when
British troops and NICA launched a military attack
on Bandung. Allied troops tried to take control of
Bandung, even though they had to violate the
results of negotiations with the Republic of
Indonesia.

NOVEMBER 21, 1945

At night, during sleep, the Indonesian Army
attacked Allies military bases at the Savoy
Homann Hotel and Preanger Hotel.

NOVEMBER 24, 1945

Allies asked Indonesians to divide Bandung into
two parts. North of Bandung for the Dustches and
the Allies, then south of Bandung for Indonesian.
That place is restricted by the railway track.

DECEMBER 9, 1945 -
DECEMBER 10, 1945
Although the Indonesian army was censured
by the Allies, the Indonesians didn't care for
their criticism. Even the Indonesian army
rebelled against the Allies to defend the
Bandung area. Especially Sukabumi Country in
Bojongkokosan..
MARCH 23, 1946
McDonald released the ultimatum, which contained a
command to Bandung residents to leave and evacuate
from the north of Bandung. A.H. Nasution urged by Sutan
Syair to approve what the Allies asked. But Jendral
Sudirman sent a telegram to A.H. Nasution. He told to
defend Bandung. Confusedly, A.H. Nasution held a meeting
with the Bandung residents. Stay or leave? And the result
said that the residents of Bandung should leave from
Bandung, and they should have reduced to rubble the south
of Bandung.

MARCH 24, 1946

The residents of Bandung left their house and
burned it all. The atmosphere turned red—such
a huge disaster. Bandung turned into the Sea
of Fire.
