Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Dayalbagh, Agra,
INTRODUCTION:
Garbh Sanskar is an Ayurvedic therapy given to mothers during pregnancy. Nowadays it is not used in modern medical antenatal
care in the hospitals. Researchers have claimed that Garbh Sanskar therapy can upgrade and repair hereditary dysfunctional
genes. Studies have proven that prenatal meditation has a positive effect on intrauterine fetal learning ability and mental and
behavioural abilities of baby [1]. Garbh Sanskar therapy educates the baby in womb leading to better sleeping habits and more
alertness and confidence after birth. Thus, here we have studied the effect of Garba Sanskar in our patients.

OBJECTIVE:
To find benefits of holistic approach (Garbh Sanskar Therapy) of pregnancy management
MATERIAL AND METHODS:
• 100 Uncomplicated pregnant women above 12 weeks of gestation in Gynae OPD of Saran Ashram Hospital Dayallbagh Agra
(Health care Habitat) were selected for antenatal care during January – December 2020.
• 50 cases of study group were managed by holistic approach using Garbh Sanskar Therapy consultation physically and/or via
tele-medicine in form of Satvic food advice, Spiritual music, Motivational stories, Surat Shabd Yoga (ultra transcendental
meditation), Chanting of Holy name Ra-Dha-Soa-Mi at four chakras and Antenatal exercises apart from routine modern
medical antenatal care in form of antenatal checkups and investigations like Blood test and ultrasonography etc.
• 50 Non Garbh Sanskarit antenatal cases were taken as Control group for comparison on parameters of birth weight of baby
and incidence of complications in the form of requirement of manual removal of placenta and low cavity forceps application
OBSERVATIONS:
• Equally matched two groups of Garbh Sanskarit and Non Garbh Sanskarit patients
were constituted.
• Age of patients were between 22 to 34 years
• Parity of patients were between 1 to 4 and duration of pregnancy was between 12
to 36 weeks.
• Two groups were compared on the parameters of birth weight and number of
complications.
• In control group normal birth weight was observed in 86% cases low-birth-weight in
8% cases and high birth weight in 6% cases
• In study group normal birth weight was observed in 90% cases low-birth-weight in
6% cases and high birth weight in 4%cases
• In control group low cavity forceps application was needed in 2% cases and manual
removal of placenta in 4% cases .
• None of above complications were seen in study group.
DISCUSSION:
Satvik food improves maternal and fetal health. Spiritual music, meditation and chanting of Holy name Radhasoami increases
consciousness of both mother and baby. It also gives positive energy to mother which alleviates anxiety and fear of pregnancy
promoting easy labor. Motivational stories helps in fetal brain development and strengthens mother child bonding .
CONCLUSION:
• Increased incidence of average birth weight of baby in study group and less incidence of complications indicates beneficial
effect of prenatal Garbh Sanskar Therapy. It is a program to get perfect progeny-physically fit, mentality alert and spiritually
blissful child.
• It is a holistic and dignified healthcare provision incorporating lifestyle modifications for pregnant women thus helping in
maternal and child health care programme of government. Hence, it is recommended as a part of routine antenatal care in the
hospitals.
• Effect of Garbh Sanskar Therapy on child’s health needs further follow up by pediatrician upto five years for physical and mental
health and cognitive behaviour in SantSu(perman) Evolutionary Scheme of RS Sabha Dayalbagh Agra
• Similar project recently - BHU and KGMU Lucknow have incorporated Garbh Sanskar Therapy in antenatal care since 2020 on
UP government initiative
