Open-Minded Communicator Sample Academic Work

Children's Story - Pablo and Chad - 9th

In this project, I represented an open-minded communicator before even starting as

well as through the process, and via the final results. Before starting on our project, we

read various different stories to analyze the format and get a general idea of what a good

story looks like and what it includes. This shows that I can read, understand and synthesize

different types of texts. We then got on our laptops and started typing up our stories in a

Google doc and made sure it was correctly formatted. This shows that I was able to use

technology to assist me in the final product of what I wanted this project to look like due to

the unique formatting. Lastly, this also shows I can communicate ideas thoughtfully with

an audience and purpose. My audience being 9-10 year olds, I chose my story to be about a

common problem with children, wrote it in a simple language and with clear ideas. My

purpose for writing this story was to show children that communication is key, and that

talking about things fixes many problems and saves relationships.

Debate - The Origin of Mankind - 10th

In this debate, we were split into different groups to discuss the origin of mankind,

the group I was a part of was the one that believed mankind came from evolutionism. We

had to do an extensive amount of research to support our claim and counter argue the

opponent. Reading, understanding, and synthesizing the research was the key to making

strong arguments and counterarguments as well as effectively answering the opponent's

questions. During the debate, the opponent team went first. I listened actively, patiently,

and open-mindedly, learning from their claims and trying to catch a fault in their argument

to press them about. It was then my group's turn and as my partner was finishing their
introduction, I prepared myself for the cross-fire. Using speed-reading as my technique

accidentally because of my nervousness for the debate, I expressed my point of view as

clearly as possible, presenting the arguments I had previously prepared. This shows that I

am able to participate in discussions and clearly express my point of view to the best of my

abilities with objective arguments.

Argumentative Essay - The Reality of Gender Ideology - 10th

Gender Ideology is a controversial topic, and that's exactly what we discussed

previous to starting on this essay. The goal for this project was to write up an

argumentative essay against transgenderism and explain our point of view in a clear and

concise manner. I showed this by writing my ideas in an organized manner and in a

comprehensive way, using transitions and connectors to do so. The audience this essay was

meant for was for the people who support transition from one gender to the other by using

means such as surgery, hormone blockers, hormone replacement, etc. to express to them

the damage this can cause to their bodies with the purpose of making them realize that it

might not be the best thing to do for their child. On the rubric, it said our essay had to be in

newspaper format, I was able to use technology to achieve this format because of Canva.

Using Canvas pre-made templates made getting this format a much easier job. Another

way I used technology was for finding images related to the topic to add to my now

newspaper article. Lastly, I was able to effectively write this in Spanish using all the

techniques and resources the teacher provided and taught us, such as a grammar corrector

and connectors and transitions.

Monograph - The Reduction of the Flow of the Rivers in Jarabacoa - 11th

In this monograph, I was required to write about a huge problem in Jarabacoa, the

problem being the reduction of the flow of the rivers in the city. Monographs take a lot of

research and time to make due to the amount of information required for this one, I read more

than 15 different texts on various websites. I took this information and analyzed it to commence

writing my monograph. This shows that I can read different texts, understand their information,

and analyze it. Unlike the year before, I decided to write up my monograph on Google Docs to

facilitate the organization of my information and reference page by doing so, I enhanced my

project and used technology effectively. The purpose of this essay was to bring awareness to the

problem in the community, our audience being people of Jarabacoa. I believe I was able to both

bring awareness and be thoughtful about the audience.
