SESSION 1 EVAL EVENTS

Event start: Flap extension

QRH notes
 Flap lever UP: The flap lever position removes VFE irrespective
of actual flap position
 Use flaps 20 & VREF 20 for landing: Flaps 30 is not available
nor is it selectable
 Its ok to close the NNC to review and cancel the EICAS until a
decision has been made before extending the flaps

System notes
 The flap handle no longer works; the Landing Checklist will not
complete (closed loop signal taken from the handle)
 There is no mention in the QRH to set the alternate flaps
selector to OFF after flaps 20 has been set, leave it.
 The slats do not extend to full, only mid-range. Extension time
is less than the HYD PRESS SYS C scenario
 The alternate flaps selector stays in position, it does not spring
load to neutral.
 The expanded flaps scale is just a scale, there is no feedback of
flaps in commanded position.
 The alternate flaps motor cuts off when flaps 20 is in position.
This is the only confirmation of actual flap configuration.
 By leaving the switch on at F20 does not harm the motor. If the
flaps retract by aerodynamic force, the motor will re-engage

FLAP/SLAT CONTROL Procedure notes

 Technique: PM places hand on the switch until extension to
flaps 20 is complete in case of asymmetry (no protection)
 Technique: Extend flaps continuously to 20 since there’s no
way to verify flap are in intermediate position
 There is no feedback to confirm flap setting for 1, 5 or 15,
except for Flaps 20 when the motor cuts out
 Reduce speed only after visual confirmation of flaps extended
past desired position via the expanded flap scale

Airmanship notes
 Plan additional fuel burn for early flaps extension
 Plan for slightly longer flap/slat extension time. Times are
shorter than HYD PRESS SYS C due to slat in mid-range only
 Request 20nm final to extend flaps
 Reduce speed after flaps have extended, for go-around do not
use the flap selector, use the ALTN flap switch
 Protection features (Skew/Asymmetry, uncommanded motion,
Auto slats, Load Relief) NOT available

Extension timings
Up-1: 50s (alternate extension is mid-range only and is quicker than a secondary extension)
(HYD PRESS SYS C = 1:40 instead of 0:50 due to full slats extension)
1-5: 55s (HYD PRESS SYS C = 2:05)
5-20: 55s
Total: 2:40 or 10nm based on 220kts (HYD PRESS SYS C = 4:50 or 17nm)

Traps & Notes

1. Gear extension will re-open the Nose Gear & Steering valve
(L) if both engines are running
2. Complete fluid loss may occur if leak source is in the C1 line
(the Nose Gear & Steering line)
3. HYD PRESS SYS C & RESERVE BRAKES/STRNG may appear if
fluid loss leads to low pressure of C system
HYD QTY LOW C
4. This occurs close to short finals if gear is lowered at 2000’
Airmanship notes
1. G/A if there is enough fuel and the flight is not in an
uncontrollable fire/smoke condition
2. Condition statement should be checked at the very least by
opening the NNC before landing
3. Condition statements may provide useful information like
loss of steering

Event start: Any time after release

EICAS/QRH notes
1. Thrust lever move to mid position
If thrust lever is idle or below mid position, it has to be
increased to mid position. This may sound counter intuitive
with an overheating engine; however, increased fuel flow
will enable the oil heat exchanger to cool the oil.

Traps & notes

1. GE engines have 15-minute amber tolerance
ENG OIL TEMP HIGH 2. GE engines are either
above red line or in amber for > 15 min
below red line or in amber for < 15 min
3. Do not get confused with the amber timing,
if its above red line, say yes and continue
4. If the message blanks with thrust levers at mid position
this should be treated like a single engine scenario.

System notes (FMC propulsion limits)

1. Redline 143
2. Amber 132
