CONCEPT OF ED
DEFINITION
Ethnographic research design involves studying human
behavior and culture in their natural settings. It focuses on
understanding the social and cultural context, beliefs,
practices, and interactions of a particular group or community

Importance
The importance is helps researchers to contextualize phenomena within their socio-
cultural environments, validate or challenge assumptions or hypotheses, enhance
empathy and cultural sensitivity, inform policy and practice, and contribute to theory
building.

Ethnography provides rich qualitative data that capture the deep insight, contextual
understanding, and cross-cultural collaboration of the research participantsEthnography
provides rich qualitative data that capture the deep insight, contextual understanding, and
cross-cultural collaboration of the research participants
PURPOSE

The purpose of Ethnography Design :

1. Understand and interpret the culture and social

context of a specific group or community
2. To generate contextualized knowledge
3. To facilitate cultural exchange and understanding
4. Contribute to theory building

CharacterISTICS
OF ETHNOGRAPHIC
DESIGN
CHARACTERISTIC:
Ethnographic research design is
characterized by its in-depth and
immersive nature. It involves
prolonged engagement and
observation in the field, allowing
researchers to gain a deep
understanding of the social and
cultural phenomena being studied. It
emphasizes participant observation,
interviews, and the collection of rich
qualitative data.
03
STEPS IN
CONDUCTING
ETHNOGRAPHIC
DESIGN
Formulating Research Questions: Identify the research questions or topics that will
01 guide the study.

Literature Review: Conduct a comprehensive review of relevant literature and

02 existing research to understand the context and build a theoretical framework.

Selection of Research Site: Choose a specific field site or community where the
03 research will be conducted.
Data Collection: Engage in participant observation, which involves immersing oneself
in the research site and observing the participants' behaviors, interactions, and
04 cultural practices. Conduct interviews with key informants and participants to gather
qualitative data.

Data Analysis: Analyze the collected data using qualitative analysis techniques such
05 as coding, thematic analysis, and constant comparison. Look for patterns, themes, and
insights that emerge from the data.

Interpretation and Reporting: Interpret the findings based on the research questions
06 and theoretical framework. Present the results in a comprehensive and coherent
manner, including a discussion of the implications and limitations of the study
