Summative Assessment

Learning Objective: Students will demonstrate mastery in decoding simple CVC words using

letter-sound correspondence.

Description of Summative Assessment: The summative assessment will consist of a series of

CVC words presented to students orally. Students will be required to decode each word using

their knowledge of letter-sound correspondence and provide the correct pronunciation.

Rationale: The summative assessment is aligned with the learning objective as it directly

evaluates students' mastery in decoding simple CVC words, which is crucial for developing early

literacy skills. By assessing students' ability to apply letter-sound correspondence independently,

the assessment measures their proficiency in meeting the learning objective.

Scoring Guide:

The scoring guide for the summative assessment will be based on the following criteria:

1. Did the student accurately decode the CVC words presented? (Yes/No)

2. Did the student demonstrate consistent application of letter-sound correspondence? (Yes/No)

Differentiated Scoring Guide: For students requiring additional support, the criteria may be

adjusted as follows:

1. Did the student accurately decode the CVC words presented with minimal assistance?

(Yes/No)

2. Did the student demonstrate improved application of letter-sound correspondence compared to

previous assessments? (Yes/No)

The decision not to differentiate the summative assessment was made because the assessment is

intended to measure mastery of the learning objective after several lessons. All students should

have had ample opportunity to master the skill, making differentiation unnecessary. Additionally,

maintaining consistent criteria ensures fairness and comparability across all students'

assessments.
