The purpose of this study is to investigate and evaluate the antimicrobial properties of
chlorophyll obtained from different plant sources in making sanitizers. Chlorophyll, a
green pigment from plants' photosynthesis, shows antimicrobial properties that can be
used for fighting pathogens.

This study uses Chlorophyll Extraction and Purification from various plant sources to
ensure the purity of the extracted compound to develop a sanitizer by the extracted
chlorophyll to lower the number of germs to a safe level naturally. In addition regarding
the other ingredients, we use Aloe Vera Gel for a soothing and moisturizing base for the
sanitizer, Isopropyl Alcohol or Ethanol, and Essential Oils to enhance the fragrance and
provide additional antimicrobial properties. The experiment aims to evaluate the
antimicrobial efficacy of chlorophyll-based sanitizer against common pathogens,
comparing its performance to commercially available sanitizers.
The procedure to be done is to extract chlorophyll from green leafy plants. In a bowl, we
will combine aloe vera gel with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then add the chlorophyll
extract to the mixture, after that we add some essential oil, and lastly stir the ingredients
thoroughly to ensure even distribution. And by that, we have our organic plant-based
sanitizer that is sure can lower the number of germs to a safe level.

This study not only explores the scientific principles behind chlorophyll's antimicrobial
action but also emphasizes the importance of adopting sustainable practices in everyday
hygiene. Photosanitizer stands as a testament to the potential of natural compounds in
creating green effective and environmentally conscious sanitization solutions, paving the
way for a hygenic, greener, and safer future.

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study

The study centers on harnessing the antimicrobial properties of chlorophyll, a plant pigment,
to formulate a natural sanitizer. The process entails extracting and purifying chlorophyll
from diverse plant sources and blending it with additional ingredients such as aloe vera gel,
alcohol, and essential oils to create a potent sanitizer. The primary objective is to investigate
the efficacy of this chlorophyll-based sanitizer against common pathogens, drawing
comparisons with commercially available sanitizers.

Moreover, the study underscores the significance of sustainability in hygiene practices. It

emphasizes the potential of natural compounds, like chlorophyll, in developing
environmentally conscious sanitization solutions. By exploring the effectiveness of this
innovative sanitizer, the research contributes to the growing awareness of sustainable and
natural alternatives in the realm of hygiene and sanitation.
Statement of the Problem
This research focuses on exploring how chlorophyll from different plants can be used to
create an effective sanitizer. The study seeks to answer these questions:

1. Can adding Isopropyl Alcohol, Aloe Vera Gel, and Essential Oil improve the antimicrobial
properties of chlorophyll for sanitizer production?
2. How well does the sanitizer perform in terms of:
Availability of Materials
Disinfection quality
3. Can homemade hand sanitizer make hands feel fresh, clean, and remove bacteria
effectively?

The aim is to understand how chlorophyll-based sanitizers, with added ingredients, can be
more effective and if homemade options provide the desired benefits.
Significance of the Study

This study holds significance in delving into the antimicrobial properties of chlorophyll
from diverse plant sources for the production of sanitizers. Chlorophyll, a green pigment
pivotal for plant photosynthesis, exhibits inherent antimicrobial qualities that can be
utilized to combat pathogens.

By employing Chlorophyll Extraction and Purification from various plants, the study
ensures the purity of the compound, contributing to the development of a natural
sanitizer. The incorporation of Aloe Vera Gel, Isopropyl Alcohol or Ethanol, and Essential
Oils in the formulation not only aims to enhance fragrance but also to provide
supplementary antimicrobial properties, creating an effective and environmentally
conscious sanitization solution.
Significance of the Study

The primary goal of the experiment is to evaluate the antimicrobial effectiveness of the
chlorophyll-based sanitizer against common pathogens, drawing comparisons with
commercially available sanitizers. Through the extraction of chlorophyll from green leafy
plants and its combination with other ingredients, the study not only enhances our
understanding of the scientific principles behind chlorophyll's action but also
underscores the significance of incorporating sustainable practices in daily hygiene.

The resultant Photosanitizer serves as evidence of the potential of natural compounds in

creating efficient, environmentally friendly sanitization solutions. This research
contributes to paving the way for a cleaner, greener, and safer future, highlighting the
practical application of scientific knowledge in fostering sustainability in our everyday
practices.
Scope and Limitations

This research focuses on investigating and evaluating the antimicrobial properties of

chlorophyll extracted from diverse plant sources. The primary objective is to develop a
sanitizer by blending chlorophyll with additional ingredients, such as aloe vera gel, isopropyl
alcohol or ethanol, and essential oils. This formulation aims to naturally reduce the number
of germs to a safe level, while also providing supplementary antimicrobial properties and
enhancing fragrance.

However, the project has certain limitations. There may be potential variations in chlorophyll
content and quality among different plant sources, posing a challenge to achieving
consistent extraction and purification processes. The effectiveness of the sanitizer may vary
against different pathogens. Furthermore, there is a need for further research to ascertain
the long-term efficacy of the developed sanitizer and to investigate any potential side
effects.
Review of Related Literature

Chlorophyll is a vital pigment found in plants that plays a crucial role in the process of
photosynthesis. It is responsible for the green color of plants and is essential for their
survival.

The process of chlorophyll extraction involves separating this pigment from plant tissues and
isolating it for further use. There are several methods for extracting chlorophyll, including
solvent extraction, steam distillation, and liquid-liquid extraction. Each method has its
advantages and limitations, and the choice of method depends on the plant species and the
desired purity of the chlorophyll extract.

One of the most common methods of extracting chlorophyll is solvent extraction, where
chlorophyll is extracted using organic solvents like acetone, ethanol, or methanol. This
method is relatively the simplest and cost-effective but may involve impurities in the extract.
Review of Related Literature

Another method is steam distillation, where chlorophyll is extracted using steam to

evaporate the pigment from the plant tissues. This method is more time-consuming and
requires specialized equipment resulting in a purer extract.

Liquid-liquid extraction is another method used for chlorophyll extraction, where the
chlorophyll is extracted from the plant tissue using a solvent that is immiscible with water.
This method is efficient in extracting chlorophyll but may require multiple extraction steps.

This study not only explores the scientific principles behind chlorophyll's antimicrobial
action but also emphasizes the importance of adopting sustainable practices in everyday
hygiene.
METHODOLOGY
A. Materials and Equipment

1. Fresh green leafy plants

2. Blender or mortar and pestle
3. Cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer
4. Aloe vera gel
5. Isopropyl alcohol
6. Essential oils (e.g., tea tree oil, lavender oil)
7. Mixing bowl

B. General Procedures

In making this product, the researchers used the equipment that was mentioned. First, for
Chlorophyll Extraction and Purification, we harvest fresh green leafy plants and wash them
thoroughly to remove impurities, then we chop them and blend until a smooth paste forms.

Next, for Sanitizer Preparation, In a bowl, we combined aloe vera gel with isopropyl alcohol
forming the base of the sanitizer. Then we added the chlorophyll extract to the mixture,
enriching it with antimicrobial properties. To enhance the fragrance and provide additional
benefits, essential oils were carefully added. Lastly, we stirred the ingredients thoroughly to
ensure even distribution.

With these steps completed, the researchers successfully created an organic, plant-based
