TITLE "Mastering Mental Math: A Comprehensive Guide to Using the Abacus for Improved Numerical
Fluency and Mathematical Confidence"

RATIONALE Tanjay City South Central School Administration and submission of results of the RO7- Submission of
Results of the Early Grade Mathematics Assessment Tool (EGMAT) measure the primary numeracy and
mathematics skills of children in early grade. Mastering mental math using an abacus effectively
enhances numerical fluency, cognitive function, and mental agility. Mental math skills are essential
daily, from calculating change at a store to performing complex calculations in academic or
professional settings. By mastering mental math using an abacus, individuals can develop a strong
foundation in math that can benefit them throughout their lives. Using an abacus to perform mental
math requires individuals to visualize numbers, manipulate beads, and perform arithmetic operations
in their minds. This process enhances mental agility, improves memory retention, and strengthens
problem-solving skills. Additionally, using an abacus provides individuals with a tangible tool to help
them visualize and understand the underlying concepts of mathematical operations. This can enhance
their learning and retention of mathematical concepts, leading to improved academic and professional
outcomes. Beyond the practical benefits of mastering mental math, there are also potential mental
health benefits. Confidence and self-esteem can be built through mastering mental math skills, leading
to reduced anxiety and depression. Mental math can also improve cognitive function and brain health,
improving overall mental health outcomes. In conclusion, mastering mental math using an abacus can
provide numerous benefits, including improved cognitive function, increased numerical fluency,
enhanced academic and professional outcomes, and potential mental health benefits. By dedicating
time and effort to learning this ancient tool, individuals can develop strong mental math skills that
benefit them throughout their lives.
