The Atlas of Fairy Tales
Flying over enchanted worlds
Illustrations by Claudia Bordin
Every fairy tales and every classic of children’s literature tells the
story of a journey: that of Alice in Wonderland, of Dorothy in the
kingdom of Oz, of Little Red Riding Hood in the wood, and of Pi-
nocchio searching for Geppetto. What if these incredible adven-
tures were represented as maps? If it were possible to fly, on the
wings of imagination, over the enchanted kingdoms of children’s
tales, one would gain an immediate total vision of each story, an
incredible view to explore in great detail, to search for the pro-
tagonists of the events and the places where their stories unfold.
This atlas of the kingdom of fairy tales transforms each tale in the
volume into a map, which are made unique and inimitable by the
tender and naive style of the illustrator Claudia Bordin.

After graduating in illustration at IED in Milan, Claudia Bordin taught for

five years Art and Image in primary schools, while devoting herself to drawing.
Working with children and with their “worlds”, which expressed imagination in
their thoughts and drawings, made her desire to release her imagination too. So
now she works, as an illustrator, with some publishing houses and communi-
cation agencies and is also involved in custom-made wedding stationery. Five
years ago she founded Mondo • Mombo: a logo, a stage name, but, above all, a
virtual world where she uses her illustrative skills for new ideas and projects.

My First Book of the
Colors / Shapes / Numbers
2+ Montessori: a World of Achievements
Text by Chiara Piroddi - Illustrations by Agnese Baruzzi
The series “Montessori, a world of achievements” is a collection
of texts for children that contain playing activities aimed at
encouraging the development of the main cognitive skills, such as
the recognition of numbers, shapes and colors.
They are not a random collection of leisure and recreational
exercises, but they are designed and built according to a very
specific educational and pedagogical approach: the principles of
the Montessori Method. Thus, they don’t simply stimulate learning
through play, but they enhance the cognitive development of the
child, thanks to their structure based on a very specific theoretical
basis, following the phases and learning ways provided by the
educational and teaching theories of Maria Montessori.
The structure of the activities suggested in the texts develops
around some fundamental Montessori principles:
- the content of the games follow a progressive complexity and
present the learning object material using a quality at a time, to
allow the child to become gradually familiar with it;
- each activity respects the Montessori methods of 3 progressive
stages of learning: 1. presentation of the material through senses
(sight, hearing, and especially touch), 2. recognition of the learning
object material, 3. reenactment of the material;
5+ - in each activity the child can directly control his mistakes, so that
he can realize by himself the accuracy of his work, without needing
constant adult intervention;
- the adult has a role of assistance and introduction to the various
Activity Colors activities, especially when they require verbal associations, but the

Coding for kids
Scratch projects
Text by Coder Kids - Illustrations by Valentina Figus
“Don’t just buy a new videogame, make one. Don’t just download
the latest app: help design it. Don’t just play on your phone: pro-
gram it.” These were the words that President Barack Obama ad-
dressed to American students to encourage them to discover a
new language, coding. With this book, kids can approach coding
while having fun, using Scratch 2.0; this programming environment
was created by the Lifelong Kindergarten group from the MIT Me-
dia Lab specifically to give to young creative talents the opportuni-
ty to create and develop games, animations and interactive stories,
sharing them with a wide and lively community. The projects of the
text are unique, thought to have a comprehensive overview of the
main functions of Scratch and tested during coding laboratories,
in school and extra school hours. Written for 8 to 12 year olds, this
book wants to give everyone the opportunity to start from scratch.
The projects are explained step by step and arranged with a pro-
gressive difficulty. After each proposal there are richer, more com-
plex variants, which are also thoroughly explained, and challenges
with solutions at the end of the book, to intrigue also grown ups.

Team coder kids: Johan Aludden, Master of Science in Engineering Physics

with Applied Mathematics and Sun Certified Java Programmer. For years, he has
planned and developed projects for large international companies. He started
as a mentor at CoderDojo and then founded CoderKids. Technical manager

to make the pleasure of reading more appealing to the youngest
children, and to involve and amuse them, Agnese Baruzzi has

surprise and laughter of the young readers.
