Ang Payaw ng mga Ifugaw at Apayaw


Ang Banaue Rice Terraces ay dinalaw namin nang kami’y nag-
bakasyon sa lalawigan ng Ifugao. Kami’y na mangha sa aming nakita.
Naku! ang ganda-ganda pala dito. Ang Hagdan-hagdang tanimang ito
ng palay ng mga Ifugaw ay karapat-dapat na ituring na isa sa
kahanga-hangang mga kariktan sa daigdig. Ang tanimang ito na
inukit sa gilid ng bundok ay ginawa ng ating mga ninuno na wala
namang kabatiran sa makabagong agham o sa makabagong paraanat
kaa-laman sa konstruksyon. Nagawa nila ito sa pagnanais na
matamnan nila ng palay ang gilid ng bundok. Ang tawag ng mga
katutubo sa tanimang ito ay payaw. Ang mga taong naninirahan
malapt dito ay ang mga Apayaw. Sa isang tribu naman doon, ang
tawag nila sa nasabing taniman ay payyo. Ang mga payaw o payo ay
animo walang katapusang hagdang patungo sa langit.
