2.3 Attaching the pile driver to the excavator
Before connecting the hydraulic lines to the carrier, check following points:
- To avoid pile driver damage, the hydraulic oil of the carrier must be kept clean. Check the
contamination of the oil, then, if necessary, change the oil or flush the oil through a external
filtration system, and replace the carrier oil filter according to the maintenance schedule of
the carrier.
- In case of using a newly installed one way piping, remove the contamination in the
hydraulic line through bypass flushing (without connecting the pile driver).
- Check the pressure setting of the relief valve on the pile driver hydraulic line, this pressure-
relief setting should be at least 30 - 40 bar higher than the measured maximum operating
pressure of the pile driver.
- The sealing faces and connecting threads of the hoses or fittings must be undamaged and
free of sand or similar foreign particles.
- 12m drain hose is provided with driver to connect from drain port of driver to excavator
return port to oil tank.
If the hydraulic lines are in good preparation for operating the pile driver, connect the pile
driver as follows:

clipping the pile completely, release foot pedal and
the tilted grip jaw returns to the straight position
automatically by the weight of pile.
12
3. Operation
3.1 Pre-inspection
- Stop Valve
Check stop valve and turn operation the stop valve before.
Warning
- Make sure to have a clear view over the vibrator and working area. Ensure that
communication between the operator and sub-worker is always possible.
- Stay clear from the direct surrounding of the vibrator
- Do not start vibrating until the jaw clamp has reached maximum clamping pressure to permit
vibration to begin.
- Improper jaw clamping may result in sheet pile, H-beam, and tube releasing the clamp
- Never let anyone be under the pile driver while operating it. Absolutely do not let anyone be
under the pile driver
- Do not move the pile driver quickly. Make it sure that a sheet pile should move slowly at low
throttle until the sheet pile is securely held by the jaw of the pile driver.
Preparing
(1) Prepare the carrier as for normal excavation work.
(2) Set the engine speed to the recommended engine RPM.
(3) Place the pile driver against the ground at 90 degrees.
(4) Start the Sheet pile driver
13
3. Operation
3.2 Picking up sheet pile
Picture 1
- Place a wooden bar between the sheet piles.
- Push the rotation and turn switch for correct positioning of the sheet pile.
Picture 2
- Lower the pile driver with the pile clamp
- Grab the sheet pile using Tilting foot petal switch .
- When the pile driver is fully 90° tilted, make sure that the sheet pile is completely inside the
clamp and the end of the pile should be touching the clamp before closing the jaw clamp.
1 2
3 4
Picture 3
- After closing the jaw clamp, it can be lifted with the sheet pile.
- When sheet pile is lifted completely, the pile driver should be tilted back to vertical position.
- Always secure the sheet pile mechanically from falling
Caution
- After sheet pile insertion, the worker must quickly step away (Never stay under the pile driver)
- Before starting to push a sheet pile, make sure that it is safely chucked.
It will be very hazardous if it slips out during operation.
- Since the jaw clamp equips a built-in accumulator, it is advisable to re-check the sheet pile at
appropriate intervals if it takes a long time to drive it through, because the clamping force of
the jaws may decrease after a long engagement with the sheet pile.
14
3.3 Operation guide
(1) In order to carry out the piling operation properly, it is important to operate both the boom
and arm to drive the pile vertically.
(2) If the sheet pile slackens its speed of going through the earth, give it a proper pressing
force in the vertical direction by operating the excavator and also adjust the engine speed
of the excavator to increase the vibrating speed.
Do not press the sheet pile with excessive force from the beginning of sheet pile driving.
Otherwise, the sheet pile may be bent or the driving angle of the sheet pile may be tilted.
(4) If the sheet pile does not go through after half way driven into the soil, pull it up a little and
then try to drive it down again.
15
3.4 Jaw Clamping
Use the jaw clamp switch to open and close the clamp. When releasing the sheet pile from
the clamp, never open the clamp before the pile driver has come to a complete stand still.
Make sure the pile or casing can not be dropped from the clamp at all times.
Caution
- Check if lifting line is slightly under tension before the clamp pressure is released.
- Do not open the clamp or release the pile before the vibration has completely stopped.
- Never apply any pressing force with the vertical lock unfastened. The vertical lock only
works when the pile driver is vibrating. The pile driver may be tilted down unexpectedly if it
was pressed down during or after the operation that may cause death or personal injuries.
- After pulling the sheet pile out of the soil, set it down to let its lower end contact an
appropriate position on the ground, whereby the vibration generating section is tilted and
the sheet pile is inclined.
- The excavator should be turned with a sheet pile vertically hanging down while the
machine is holding the pile.
- It is dangerous to turn the excavator if the sheet pile is not hung down straight.
- Never allow anyone to get into the turning area of the excavator when it is turning.
- Before starting operation, check the operation ground is level and firm in order to prevent
the excavator from falling down.
- Do not touch the pile driver and the hydraulic hoses during operation.
- Do not use the pile driver for loading operation by attaching a wire to the main body.
- Hold a single sheet pile at a time. Holding more than one sheet pile simultaneously is
hazardous.
- Do not operate the hydraulic motor in other cases than sheet pile driving and pulling.
- Keep close watch on oil leaks during operation.
- In case the oil spurts out through the air breather during operation, stop operating the pile
driver immediately and track down the cause.
- If the pile driver gets into trouble during operation, stop the operation at once, lay it down
on the ground, track down the cause. See TROUBLE-SHOOTING GUIDE
NOTE
Keep the following rules in mind when you carry out maintenance work.
1) The sheet pile driver is a hydraulic machine made with great precision.
Absolute cleanness is basic and essential requirements for handling any hydraulic
components. Dirt is the worst enemy of hydraulic systems.
2) Handle the parts carefully and remember to cover cleaned and dried parts with clean lint
free cloths.
3) Do not use anything other than purpose-designed fluid for cleaning hydraulic parts.
Never use water, paint thinners or carbon tetrachloride.
4) Components, gaskets and seals in the hydraulic system should be oiled with clean
hydraulic oil before assembly
16
4. MAINTENANCE
4.1 General
Preventive maintenance includes normal servicing in order to keep the pile driver in
operation condition and prevent unnecessary breakdowns. The preventive maintenance
consists of periodic inspection and replacement of oil, filter and jaws of the pile driver.
Lubrication is essential for the system, determining to a great extent the useful life of the pile
driver.
Therefore it is important that the instructions regarding types of oils and exchange intervals
are closely adhered to.
(1) Daily
Conduct routine maintenance daily before start using pile driver.
Before start up :
► Inject grease for grease parts per 6 hours
(Check each part has received sufficient greasing.)
► Inspect all bolts and nuts. Re-tighten them if necessary.
When tightening the bolts, use Loctite adhesives.
► Check the oil level in the gear box and make sure the gear box has correct amount of oil.
The oil level should be indicating the middle of the gauge. Change oil if it is milky or black.
► Check all hoses for damage and leaks. Replace the hose if necessary.
► Make sure all connections are tight, especially the cable connectors.
► Inspect all cushion elastomers for cracks and loosened bolts .
► Check the condition of the clamping jaws.
► Check the hydraulic manifold block, rotary joint and fittings for leaks.
During operation:
► Be alert to rattling noise which indicates that one or more bolts have come loose.
Check all bolts immediately and retighten them.
► Handle all hoses with care and make sure there are no sharp curves on the hoses.
17
(3) Every 200 hours or Monthly
► Check the functioning of the motor and pump
► Observe hydraulic oil temperature, all lines and connections.
Injection Grease twice per day twice per day Grease Part
► If the pile driver makes noise, the bearing should be replaced regardless of change
Interval chart.
- When operating in an environmental with high salt or moisture, the service intervals need
not to be changed. However, the unit shall be thoroughly inspected weekly to determine
what additional servicing, if any, might be required.
18
※ Heavy Driving Conditions
The following conditions are considered as heavy driving conditions
- When the average temperature is above +30°C or below -30°C
- When operating in excess of 8 hours per day
- Leader guided machines are considered heavy driving conditions.
The fluid level can be seen through the level gauge located on the gear box. Under normal
gear box temperatures, the level of the lubrication oil shall be under mid-level of the gauge.
Lubrication gear oil may be added through the gear box cork when necessary.
The gear case lubricant used at the factory is S-oil SAE15W-40.
When replacing the lubricant, you must use an engine oil that complies with the following
specifications, otherwise the pile driver can be seriously damaged :
Please contact DAEDONG with actual gear case temperature for recommendations on
lubrication oil and special instructions.
19
4.5 Long term storage
Shall the pile driver not be used for any extended period of time (approximately 2~3 months),
the oil in the gear case should be completely replaced with new oil.
The pile driver should be stored vertically with the upper bracket facing upwards,
otherwise with the hydraulic motors facing upwards (See the pictures below).
Oil (SAE 15W-40) replacement also requires checking for oil contamination.
Contaminated oil results in malfunctions in the gear box of the pile driver and causes
damage to the parts. Pay special attention to oil contamination. Contaminated oil should be
removed and changed with new oil without delay.
When changing oil (SAE 15W-40), thoroughly clean the inside of the gear box and bearings.
►Refill Oil (SAE 15W-40) : Check oil level gauge, oil level must be under middle position
