Background of the Study

This study aims to evaluate the impact of parenting to the academic performances

of Junior High School Students in Lucban, Quezon. The researchers pursue this topic

because they had similar experiences with some students. They are curious about the

various parenting styles that can have a significant impact on their children’s academic

performance. The researchers want to gain more knowledge by conducting this research.

Some of the relevant information and studies that can support our desire to conduct this

study is as follows:

According to Hendricks (n. d.), parenting is the process of raising children and

providing them with protection and care in order to ensure their healthy development into

adulthood. It is a skill and style on how parents’ guide, discipline, care, and protect their

children. However, as we all know, parents have their own unique way for raising their

children. They can adopt some of the techniques they witnessed in their forefathers, and

as a result, there’s a possibility that they will pass it on to the next generation. However,

according to the research of Morin (2021), there’s a four types of parenting styles which

are: Authoritarian Parenting, Autorotative Parenting, Permissive Parenting, and

Uninvolved Parenting. The Authoritarian parents do not consider their children’s

feelings. They are always strict and punish their children when they commit a mistake.

Autorotative Parenting is the polar opposite of authoritarian parenting because they put a

lot of effort into creating and maintaining a positive relationship with their child. They

also enforce rules and give consequences, however, they still concerned about their

child’s feelings. Permissive parenting is lenient because they set rules but rarely enforces
them on their children. Finally, uninvolved parents rarely spend time to their kids, they

don’t devote much time or energy to meeting their children’s basic needs.

After the researchers determine the four different types of parenting styles, the

researchers became increasingly motivated to conduct this research due to their curiosity.

The researchers’ interest to the study has grown, and they are looking forward to gaining

new knowledge and information.

Significance of the Study

The study’s findings will benefit the students, parents, teachers, educational

institutions, society, and future researchers. This research will bring significance to each

of them to understand, be enlightened, and be aware to this kind of problem that not

everyone is aware of.

Students, this may help them to improve their learnings and knowledge when it

comes in the different parenting style. They can also be aware of the aspects of this study

with which they are unfamiliar.

Parents, this may help them in enlightening their minds on what things and

behaviors that they should and should not do to their children, especially when their

children’s psychological behavior is getting affected as well as their children’s grades.

Teachers, this study will be beneficial to them because, as a second parents and

advisers, they will be better able to help and guide students when it comes to how parents

treat their children, which may affect their academic performance at school.
Society, this may serve them as their basis so that they are aware that there is an

existing problem and studies that all about the impact of parenting on the academic

performances of all students, which they may be encountering now, so that the outcome

of this study will allow them to know what they should do.

Future Researchers, this study may be used as their basis for their future studies,

which will eventually contribute to the accumulation of the new knowledge and

information that they will gained from this research.
