SWK2103-1 Social Deviation Case Study

I. Presenting the Problem

Arnold Maala A.K.A “Anod” lived in Bangar, La Union. He had a modest

life and all of his family members are fond of him because he was a good son and
a good brother to his 2 other siblings. He had a wife named Hilda Maala and a child
“Robert” that was in the care of his in laws in his mother side for his Mother Hilda
is in Japan working as an OFW. One day on 2009 Hilda went home to their home
in Quezon City and Anod was there. During lunch Hilda told Anod that they should
separate for she would be marrying a Japanese Man. Anod did not take it well. He
said that his whole mood darkened and he ended up killing Hilda in the bathroom
using a scissors leaving Hilda with 72 stab wounds. After that scene Anod rushed
to his cousins house in Manila and told them what happened. It was a crime of
passion. After that scene Anod kept running away from the police for 8 years until
2017 in the burial of his mother in La Union the police caught him.

Now their son Robert is just in the custody of his mom’s family and now a
teenager. He didn’t see his mom on his mom’s burial for the family of his mom
thought that he was too young that time to take everything that happened. He was
only told that his father killed his mom and he will never see his father again. Up
until now Robert is still coping up on what happened to his mother and why his
father killed his mother.

This unfortunate circumstances of Robert led to:

- A fear of other people knowing that his father is a killer and he will be teased that he is a
son of a killer
- Having a hard time forming friendships and bonds with other people
- He having a tainted reputation in their barangay
- He having trauma from his Father
- A constant feeling that he needs to be isolated

IV. Socio Economic Status of the Client

In the family of Robert only his aunt is providing for them. His aunt has no
family, so she is also the bread winner. Their family is classified as middle class for
they can eat thrice a day and she is also able to provide Robert a budget for his
education.
