DLAC NARRATIVE REPORT
February 5, 2024
10:25 am-12:15 pm

Students are the heart of education. Students’ experiences both from their
parents and school may affect the students’ perception and behavior at the present
and in the future. It is a must that teachers should know how to handle students in a
way that they will be able to open up and feel welcome. Getting the students’
attention is now a challenge to the teachers. Students are now exposed to
technology that supposedly be taken advantage for their studying. In the contrary,
some students were out of focus because of this. With this, teachers are challenged
on how to be innovative. This session for DLAC caters the mentioned concerns.
POSITIVE DISCIPLINE and INNOVATIVE WAYS of TEACHING in Matatag
Curriculum are the topics for this Department Learning Action Cell (DLAC).

The session started at 10:30 am at EsP Department with an Opening Prayer

led by Ma’am Lowie Lou Orain, Teacher I. It was the followed with an energizer led
by Sir Randell O. Cabales, MTI with Chair-Dance activity. Sir Brian E. Camansi,
introduced the speakers for the day.

Ma’am Melissa D. Alcazar, T1, discussed about Positive Discipline in

Everyday Teaching. Its objective is to help teachers apply a positive discipline
approach in the classroom management. PDET Primer outlines steps that teachers
can follow and situations they can prefer to in applying positive and non-violent
discipline. She explained about the corporal punishment which includes physical and
non-physical forms of punishments. Corporal punishment is prohibited under DepEd
Order No. 40 s. 2012 Known as Policy and Guidelines on Protecting Children in
school from Abuse, Violence, Exploitations, Discrimination, Bullying and Other

Forms; Deped Order No. 55 s. 2013 known as RA 10627 or Anti-Bullying Act of

2013; and DepEd Order No. 18 s. 2015 known as Guidelines and Procedures on the
Management of Children-At-Risk and Children in Conflict with the Law.

Ma’am Alcazar emphasized the value of love and care as we deal with all the
students since each child was raised in different way.

The next topic is about Innovative Teaching Strategies in the Matatag

Curriculum. Innovative teaching strategies are instructional approaches that involve
the use of technology, hands-on activities and other materials to help students learn
in a meaningful way. It is beneficial because they create a more engaging learning
environment. Ma’am Dianne P. Sansan, TII, enumerated different ways of being
innovative in teaching namely:

1. Flip the Classroom – a modern pedagogy strategy that has gained

popularity among educators because students become more independent
learners, they engaged better in the classroom and teachers can complete
the syllabus without being rushed.

2. Personalized learning – is an educational approach that aims to customize

learning for each students’ strengths, needs, skills and interests.

3. Project-Based Learning (PBL) – is an effective method that helps students

drive their own learning journey. With this, students identify a real-world
problem then develop a solution. This develops critical thinking and
decision-making skills, fosters problem-solving abilities and engages
students at higher levels.

4. Inquiry-Based Learning – develops thinking and problem-solving skills.

Students develop their answers by listening to what other students have
found as well as identifying areas that require more attention and detail.

5. Design Thinking – is the process of finding meaningful ideas to solve a

particular real-world problem that exists in a community or an organization.
Students are encouraged to be creative, to expand their knowledge on a
wide range of topics and foresee new problems and challenges

6. Cooperative Learning – “Teamwork makes the dream work.” With this,

collaborative learning is being encouraged. This develops the social
interaction and critical life skills; develops higher order thinking skills;
promotes higher engagement and class attendance; fosters interpersonal
relationships.

7. Student-Centered Approach- This approach builds leadership within

students; customized learning for students; more flexible and adaptable
approach.

8. Competency-Based Learning – a method where students progress

through learning objectives at their own pace. This brings in greater
flexibility in learning, establishes purpose-driven teaching and learning;
and uses personalized teaching-learning processes.

9. Culturally Inclusive Teaching – connects the subject matter to the cultures

of the students, establishing a particular connection. Teachers will be able
to know their students, their cultural backgrounds, and some basic cultural
information.

10. Visual-Based Learning – Visual learning can help teachers light up dull
subjects that may seem less interesting for students. Its benefits are
making learning simplified; longer knowledge retention and learning
becomes fun.

No matter how effective these innovative methods are, teachers first need
to be trained well in order to be able to implement them well. Teachers need to
be equipped with the proper knowledge and implementation skills.

Both the speakers explained the topic well despite time constraints. They
really shared their expertise, experiences and knowledge to the group.

Sir Randell O. Cabales, MTI, awarded the Certificate of Appreciation to the

speakers. The activity was then followed with a meeting spearheaded by
Ma’am Maria C. Lauden, HTII. She reminded the teachers about Catch-Up
Friday, DLP (integration of Catch-Up Friday in the DLP), Accomplishment
Reports and other concerns in the Department.

Sir Jose A. Gerona, TII, was assigned as documenter while Ma’am

Rachalle Ann F. Manaloto, TII, was assigned in the certificates.

It was then followed by the rewarding of Certificates to all attendees and a

closing prayer led by Ma’am Tricia Xylyne L. Caldelero, TIII. The session
ended at 12:10 in the afternoon.
