Asmall part that serves as the
representative of a population
 May be defined as measuring a
small portion of something and
then making a general statement
about the whole thing.
A frequency distribution using the
means computed from all possible
random samples of a specific size
taken from a population.
 Means vary from sample to
sample.
Arandom variable that depends
on a particular sample. The
probability distribution is also the
sampling distribution of the
sample means.
 The
difference between the
sample mean and the population
mean.
 If random samples of size n are drawn
from a population, then as n becomes
larger and larger, the sampling
distribution of the mean approaches the
normal distribution, regardless the shape
of the population distribution. The sample
size is usually considered to be large if
n≥30
