NST CST

A test that monitor FHR in response to fetal A test that monitor FHR in response to uterine
movement, in order to assess the integrity of contraction to determine how well the fetus will
fetal CNS and CVS cope with the contractions during childbirth

It is done after 26 to 28 weeks of pregnancy It is done after 34 weeks pregnancy

RESULTS RESULTS
➢ Reactive non stress ➢ Negative(normal)
test(normal/negative) - No late or significant
- It indicate healthy variable decelerations,
fetus with at least 3 uterine
- FHR acceleration of contractions (lasting 40
15 b/mt above the seconds) in 10 minute
baseline lasting for period.
15-40 sec in
association with fetal
movement

➢ Non-reactive(Positive)
- No acceleration / ➢ Positive
acceleration less than - Presence of late
15 b/mt lasting less decelerations of FHR
than 15 sec duration with at least 50% or
occur during 40mt more contractions in the
observation. absence of
hyperstimulation of
➢ Equivocal uterus
- There are definite ➢ Equivocal
FHR acceleration in - Presence of late
association with fetal decelerations less than
movement but the 50% of contractions or
number of hyper stimulation of
acceleration, length of uterus
their duration does not
meet the criteria for
being either
reactive/non reactive .
➢ Unsatisfactory ➢ Unsatisfactory
- Result cannot be
interpreted because of
poor quality of FHR - No adequate uterine
tracing contractions/FHR not
tracing.

MANAGEMENT MANAGEMENT

1. Follow daily Fetal Kick 1. Follow daily Fetal Kick Counts
Counts B. Positive Contraction Stress Test
B. Non-Reactive Nonstress Test 1. Hasten fetal delivery
1. Perform Oxytocin Challenge
Test (OCT)

(HYPERSTIMULATION OF UTERUS is defined as either occurrence

of uterine contractions lasting more than 60 seconds, or occurrence of
more than four contractions within 10 minutes)
