COURSE OVERVIEW
This course addresses the challenge of managing the making of goods and services, as well as
models and techniques for dealing with these problems. The emphasis is on developing
analytical insights into a few central models that have proved their usefulness in practice.
Students develop the ability to model complex situations. The objective of this course is also to
expose students to the common quantitative modelling tools used to support business decision
making. This introductory course therefore covers fundamental quantitative methods for
business decision making.

The course will focus on covering the most frequently used quantitative management science
techniques which deals with decisions when conditions are ‘reasonably’ certain and under
conditions of uncertainty. Excel will be used to solve realistic linear programming problems. In
this course, we will study a variety of business problems which can be solved by formulating
them as mathematical models.

By the end of the course, students will be expected to be able to;

1. Identify the models and techniques for dealing with problems of managing the making
of goods and services.
