Spandan is an annual media extravaganza organized by the students of Vivekananda School

of Journalism and Mass Communication (VSJMC). Spandan perpetually focuses on
enhancing the quality of education and providing hands-on exposure to the students. From its
inception in 2003, Spandan has become synonymous with spreading colours of joy,
enthusiasm and designing a platform which provides an array of opportunities to the talented
youth in various spheres of the media industry and has received recognition from various
colleges and universities around the nation. The extravaganza has been graced with veterans
from the media and entertainment industry like Mr Rajat Sharma, Mr Deepak Chaurasia, Ms
Swati Sharma, Mr Kuldeep Nayyar, Mr Tigmanshu Dhulia, Mr Milind Khandekar, Mr
Hemant Gaba, Mr Sanjay Mehra, RJ Raunac, RJ Abbas, RJ Naved and RJ Rahul Makin.
Prominent leaders like Mr Ajay Maken, Mr Rajyavardhan Rathore, Late Mr Arjun Singh, and
the famous Bronze medallist at summer Paralympics 2016, Mr Varun Singh Bhati have also
inspired thousands with their presence at Spandan. Prestigious sponsors have extended
enormous support towards making the festival a success year after year. Spandan has been
sponsored by both private and government organizations like Pepsi, HERO, Red FM 93.5,
ANI, Honda, Unity Group, Hindustan Times, The Citizen, National Thermal Power
Corporation (NTPC Ltd), Steel Authority of India (SAIL), Gas Authority of India (GAIL
Ltd), Hewlett Packard (HP), Power Finance Corporation Ltd. (PFC), Indian Farmers
Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), Nestlé, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), Canon
and PP Jewellers.

Objectives of SPANDAN 2023:

● To empower students of journalism and mass communication with hands-on experience in

event management and facilitate valuable industry-academia interactions.

● To offer a live and engaging experience to attendees while providing students with a
platform to showcase their talents, skills, and creativity in diverse fields, including arts,
music, dance, and more.

This year, we emphasise commemorating Chandrayaan's success and accomplishments of

ISRO. media appearances, movie screenings, and literary events, cultural concerts, sporting
competitions, and unofficial performances will occur over the course of the festival's two
days. In 2023 Spandan, Using the motif "Moonwalk," We intend to celebrate our amazing
accomplishment.

"MOONWALK" not only added a unique flavour to Spandan but also served as a
reminder of the boundless opportunities that lie ahead for the students venturing into
the media industry. The event, with its cosmic theme, showcased the students'
creativity and determination, making Spandan 2023 a memorable celebration of
talent, innovation, and the spirit of exploration.

As a core member of the production team at the central level for Spandan, the annual media
fest of VIPS College Delhi, my journey was nothing short of exhilarating. My primary focus
was on contributing to the success of VIPS VIBES, a live radio event that showcased the
dynamic and vibrant essence of Spandan.

In the realm of event production, my dedication found expression through the lenses of both
photography and videography. This dual role allowed me to transcend the conventional
boundaries of documentation. I wasn't merely capturing images; I was on a mission to
encapsulate the very heart and soul of Spandan, infusing each frame with the vivacity and
creativity that define this remarkable event.

The canvas of my responsibility extended from capturing candid shots of distinguished guests
to encapsulating the pulsating energy and dynamic atmosphere that characterized Spandan.
Every frame that emerged from my lens was not just a snapshot but a meticulously crafted
visual memory, designed to resonate profoundly with both participants and attendees. It
served as a testament to the vibrant spirit that defines the very core of Spandan.

VIPS VIBES, the live radio event that I covered as a core member of the production team,
became a focal point of my contribution. Through the lens of my camera and the eye for
detail in my videography, I sought to not only document the event but to narrate a story—a
story of creativity, enthusiasm, and the unique character of Spandan. The live radio format
added an additional layer of complexity and excitement, and I was committed to capturing
this in its full glory.

My role was not limited to technical execution alone; it was about becoming a conduit for the
event's essence. Each photograph and video clip was a brushstroke, contributing to the larger
masterpiece that is Spandan. It was about painting the canvas of the event with the vibrant
strokes of energy and passion that were palpable in every corner.
Beyond the visual aspect, my contribution extended to the very fabric of the event. Being a
core member of the central production team meant actively shaping the narrative of Spandan.
It involved collaborating with fellow team members, understanding the unique requirements
of VIPS VIBES, and ensuring that the live radio event seamlessly integrated with the overall
tapestry of Spandan.

In essence, my dual role as a photographer/videographer and a central production team

member allowed me to go beyond the surface, delving deep into the core of Spandan. It was
not just about creating images; it was about contributing to the living, breathing entity that is
Spandan—an event that pulsates with creativity, enthusiasm, and a commitment to the
celebration of media and communication.

In conclusion, my journey as a core member of the production team at the central level for
Spandan was an immersive experience. Through the lens of my camera and the collaborative
efforts within the team, I contributed to the visual storytelling of Spandan and played a vital
role in bringing the dynamic and vibrant spirit of VIPS VIBES to life. It was a privilege to be
part of an event that transcends the ordinary, leaving a lasting impression on both participants

In a captivating fusion of artistic expression and scientific exploration, the exhibition

"Obscura - To the Moon & Back" transported visitors on a mesmerizing journey within the
celestial confines of a planetarium. This unique showcase, centered around the theme of
space and the vast cosmos, transformed the venue into an immersive setting, beckoning
attendees to unravel the mysteries of the universe.

At the heart of this cosmic odyssey was a breathtaking visual spectacle. The celestial display
served as a captivating backdrop for “Stargazing" where seasoned astrophotographers and
photographers delved into the intricate nuances of their craft. Seamlessly intertwining the
realms of photography, science, and the cosmos, these talks provided a deeper understanding
of the artistic and scientific aspects of capturing the wonders of the universe. The immersive
experience was further enriched by an auditory dimension, with musicians crafting a cosmic
soundtrack that heightened the overall atmosphere, aiming to create an all-encompassing
encounter with the marvels of space.

However, "Obscura - To the Moon & Back" was more than just a visual and auditory feast—
it was a comprehensive educational journey. Woven into the fabric of the event was a
celebration of the achievements of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Attendees could trace ISRO's remarkable journey through interactive displays, gaining
valuable insights into the organization's pivotal contributions to space exploration. This
educational element added depth to the exhibition, making it not only an awe-inspiring
experience but also an informative exploration of humanity's endeavors beyond Earth.

With an inclusive approach, "Obscura" catered to a diverse audience encompassing

photography enthusiasts, professional photographers, astronomy aficionados, art
connoisseurs, and the general public. The carefully curated exhibits and presentations ensured
that every attendee, regardless of background, could find something intriguing and engaging.
By embracing inclusivity, the exhibition became a communal celebration of our collective
curiosity about the cosmos.

A pivotal goal of "Obscura" was to elevate astrophotography to its rightful place as a distinct
genre of photography. Through storytelling, artistic expression, and audience engagement, the
exhibition sought to foster awareness about the expansive realm of astrophotography.
Attendees were invited to appreciate the beauty of the cosmos through a different lens,
gaining a renewed understanding of the marriage between art and science.

Central to the celestial celebration was Jhankrit Ahuja, a passionate astrophotographer whose
pioneering work had redefined the boundaries of this challenging yet rewarding art form.
Ahuja, armed with specialized equipment such as telescopes, cameras, and filters, captured
the ethereal beauty and wonder of the night sky. His dedication was palpable in the
meticulous planning and research that underpinned each shot, often leading him to remote
locations to achieve optimal conditions for his cosmic compositions.

"Obscura - To the Moon & Back" was not merely an exhibition; it was a jubilant
proclamation of the union between art and science. Attendees were invited to embark on a
celestial journey, gaining a newfound appreciation for the breathtaking beauty that extends
beyond our earthly confines. It stood as a testament to the boundless possibilities when
creativity, scientific curiosity, and a passion for exploration converge, inviting all to look up
and marvel at the wonders of the universe.

Obscura, a captivating photography event, seamlessly blended the artistry of visual
storytelling with the allure of the cosmos. As a pivotal member of the core team, I undertook
multifaceted responsibilities, orchestrating a symphony of creativity that resonated through a
photo exhibition, a photography competition titled "Our Space," and an illuminating talk
segment titled "Stargazing."

My role in the core team extended far beyond conceptualization; I took charge of the intricate
dance of sponsorship and social media marketing. Navigating the delicate balance between
artistic integrity and financial viability, I secured strategic partnerships that not only bolstered
Obscura's budget but also enriched the overall experience for attendees. Through targeted
social media campaigns, we created a buzz that transcended geographical boundaries,
drawing a diverse audience eager to immerse themselves in the world of Obscura.
Leading a team of 20 volunteers, I orchestrated a harmonious collaboration that ensured the
seamless execution of every aspect of the event. From logistics to attendee engagement, my
role involved not only strategic planning but also the cultivation of a passionate and dedicated
team spirit. The volunteers became the lifeblood of Obscura, infusing the event with
enthusiasm and commitment that resonated with every attendee.

Obscura was not just an event; it was a testament to the power of visual storytelling and the
boundless creativity that emerges when diverse talents converge. Through the photo
exhibition, the photography competition, and the "Stargazing" talk segment, Obscura left an
indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those who experienced it. As a member of the core
team, I take pride in having contributed to the orchestration of an event that transcended the
ordinary, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of photography and creative expression.
