SUBJECT: CHEMISTRY (AK)

NAME: ____________________ CLASS: IX SECTION: ROLL NO. ___________

TOPICS:

Choose the correct option

1. Assertion- Colloidal particles do not show Tyndall effect.

Reason- Colloidal solutions are stable and the colloidal particles do not settle
down.

A) Both A and R are true and R is correct explanation of the A.

B) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of the A.
C) A is true but R is false.
D) A is false but R is true.

2.
What kind of a colloidal solution is an emulsion?

A) Solid dispersed in solid.

B) Liquid dispersed in liquid.
C) Gas dispersed in liquid.
D) Liquid dispersed in solid.

3. Which one of the following statements is correct in respect of fluids?

(a) Only gases behave as fluids

(b) Gases and solids behave as fluids

(c) Gases and liquid behaves as fluids

(d) Only liquids are fluids.

4. If number of electrons in an atom is 8 and number of protons is also 8, then

(i) What is the atomic number of the atom?

(ii) What is the charge on the atom?

Atomic number is equal to number of protons i.e. 8. Since number of protons is equal to
number of electrons i.e. 8, therefore charge on the atom is 0.

5. If bromine atom is available in the form of say, two isotopes 7935Br (49.7%) and 8135Br
(50.3%), calculate the average atomic mass of bromine atom.

Isotope of bromine with atomic mass 79 u = 49.7%

Therefore, Contribution of 7935Br to atomic mass =79×49.7100=39.26u
Isotope of bromine with atomic mass 81 u = 50.3%
Contribution of 8135Br to the atomic mass of bromine =81×50.3100=40.74u
Hence atomic mass of the bromine atom =39.26+40.74u=80u

6. Hydrogen and oxygen combine in the ratio of 1 : 8 by mass to form water. What mass of
oxygen gas would be required to react completely with 3 g of hydrogen gas?

Hydrogen and Oxygen combine in the ratio 1:8 by mass

So we can say that the amount of Oxygen required to react with 1g of Hydrogen to form
water is 8g
Hence, the amount of Oxygen needed to react completely with 3g of Hydrogen is 3×8=24g
Therefore, 24g of Oxygen is required to react completely with 3g of hydrogen gas to form
water.

7. Calculate the molecular masses of NH3, CH3OH.(Atomic mass- N-14, H-1, C-12, O-16)

NH3= 17u

CH3OH- 32U

8. Convert the following temperature to Celsius scale:

(a) 300 K- 300-273=27 C (b) 573 K=573-273=300C

9. To make a saturated solution, 36 g of sodium chloride is dissolved in 100 g of water at 293

K. Find its concentration at this temperature.

Concentration = (mass of a solute/ mass of a solution) x 100

= 36/136 x 100

= 26.47%

10. Explain the following giving examples:

(a) Saturated solution- In a given solvent when no more solute can dissolve further at a given
temperature is called saturated solution.
(b) Pure substance- A pure substance consists of a single type of particles. E.g., gold, silver.
(c) Colloid- A colloid is a solution in which the size of solute particles are bigger than that of
true solution. These particles cannot be seen with our naked eyes, they are stable, e.g., ink,

blood.
(d) Suspension- It is a heterogeneous mixture in which the solute particles are big enough to
settle down, e.g., chalk-water, paints, etc.
