I. Answer the following in short:

1. What are the two conditions required for osmosis?

Ans: (a) Difference in concentration of water across two systems.
(b) Semipermeable membrane

2. Mention 2 main functions of areolar tissues.

Ans: (a) They act as supporting and packing tissue as they are found between the
visceral organs.
(b) They help in the repair of tissues.

3. Differentiate between striated and cardiac muscles (2 points)

Striated Muscles Cardiac muscles

Associated with the skeletal components of Found in the walls of heart.
the body. Found in limbs.
Multinucleated Uninucleate
Myofibrils are stratified Myofibrils are stratified and branched
Contract rapidly Contract rhythmically

Ans: Indian bee- Apis indica
Rock bee – Apis dorsata

5. How is inland fishery different from marine fishery?

storage of water and minerals.

2. Blood is considered as connective tissue.

Ans: Blood is considered as connective tissue because
(a) Like other connective tissues, blood consists of living cells scattered in an
abundant matrix.
(b) Blood circulates through the body, receiving and providing materials to all
tissues and organs of the body.

III. Answer the following in detail:

1. What is manure? State two advantages of using manure. How does green manure
differ from ordinary manure?

and animal wastes like straw and dung by microbes. The advantages of manure are
as follows:
a) It enriches soil with nutrients without causing any pollution.
b) It improves the soil texture.
c) It increases water holding capacity of soil by adding organic matter to it.
Green manure is different from the ordinary manure as it is obtained only by
the decomposed green plants. Whereas, ordinary manure includes animal
waste as well.
